Mother in Hanoi lost 1.1 billion VND when registering her child for basketball practice

(Dan Tri) - Recently, Facebook has seen fake accounts impersonating "Vietnam Basketball Federation VBF" announcing basketball class enrollment, with the aim of luring people to register and then appropriating their assets.

On January 11, Hanoi City Police said that Cau Giay District Police had just received a report of fraud and property appropriation from a woman in the area.

According to authorities, on January 5, Ms. D. (31 years old) registered her child for basketball lessons through the Facebook page "Vietnam Basketball Federation VBF".

She was then instructed to download the Telegram application to perform the task and was robbed of 1.1 billion VND. Realizing that she had been scammed, Ms. D. went to the Trung Hoa Ward Police Station, Cau Giay District, to report the incident.

Hanoi police said that some scammers took advantage of the interest of many families who wanted their children to practice basketball to improve their health, and from there created fake Facebook pages "Vietnam Basketball Federation VBF".

When parents register for the course, the subjects ask to download the Telegram application to be guided by "experts" to participate in a number of tasks to confirm sports equipment and reduce tuition fees.

After a number of low-value tasks, the "prey" is asked to perform high-value tasks.

At this time, they will use many reasons for the victim to perform the syntax incorrectly, forcing the victim to perform it again many times or transfer more money to withdraw all the transferred amount.

When the amount of money is enough, the subjects will disconnect and delete the chat group on the Telegram application.

To avoid fraud, Hanoi City Police recommends that people be vigilant. If they register to learn how to play basketball, families should go directly to centers and training facilities to learn about the sport and register their children to participate.

When encountering cases with signs of fraud, people need to immediately contact the police to promptly resolve the matter according to regulations.
