"The training intensity of U.22 Vietnam is only moderate, not too heavy because coach Kim Sang-sik knows that the players have just finished competing in the national U.21 tournament," striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan shared before the afternoon training session on August 15 at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center. This is the second training session of U.22 Vietnam under coach Kim Sang-sik.

The short training session of U.22 Vietnam is to help Mr. Kim test his students' abilities and evaluate the potential of the next generation of the national team.

Coach Kim Sang-sik also gave opportunities to many young faces of the U.20 team such as Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Gia Bao, Nguyen Bao Long, Quach Quang Huy, Trinh Long Vu, Mai Quoc Tu, Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Quoc Khanh, goalkeeper Cao Van Binh, Pham Dinh Hai.

Coach Kim Sang-sik told the whole team that this is the first training session for the young players under his management, so he wants the whole team to try their best to prove their abilities and play football happily. Coach Kim wants us to show our passion, to feel free to prove ourselves. In the national team, we stay in two rooms. At this point, the coaching staff probably remembers the players' names," Thanh Nhan affirmed.

According to the plan, after the end of the first training period in 2024, the group of U.19 and U.20 players will move on to training with the Vietnam U.20 team to prepare for the 2025 U.20 Asian qualifiers.

Striker Thanh Nhan is one of the most experienced players, having played for the Vietnamese national team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, the 32nd SEA Games, and the 2024 U.23 Asian qualifiers. However, Thanh Nhan is still playing in the first division and has never participated in the V-League. He is highly regarded by coaches and is nicknamed "the man without lungs".

"I will practice and compete to the best of my ability, so that the coaching staff can evaluate me. I hope to be called up in the next call-ups. Coach Kim Sang-sik often reminds the players before practice, mainly about the lesson plan and requirements for the whole team. We also have a common chat group to remind each other about practice times," Thanh Nhan emphasized.

Vietnam U.22 will continue to have another training session at the end of August 2024. In this training session, the team will gather with a force mainly of U.21 players to participate in the international U.21 friendly football tournament organized by the Chinese Football Association, taking place from September 2 to September 10 in Changsha city with the participation of the teams: Vietnam, Malaysia, Uzbekistan and host China.
