The 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia was the first time the neighboring country hosted the Games. Coming to the stadium to cheer for the Vietnamese athletes, hearing the Ha Tinh accent “mo te rang rua” at Morodok Stadium, the feeling was hard to describe.
Ha Tinh compatriots in Phnom Penh came to the stadium to cheer for the Vietnamese women's team in the final match against Myanmar.
On the day I was preparing to go to Cambodia, through social networks, I got to know Mr. Dang Ngoc De (from Can Loc, Ha Tinh) who was living and working in Phnom Penh. De promised to pick me up whenever he came, and with the affection of a fellow native of Ha Tinh, this friend became my free tour guide during my days in Cambodia. Therefore, from food to accommodation in the host country, De took care of everything for me.
Dang Ngoc De and the author took a souvenir photo at the Olympic stadium.
The Can Loc native has been working in a neighboring country for 11 years, so De's Cambodian is also very good. De is currently the CEO of a consumer goods distribution company in Cambodia. Interestingly, through De, I discovered that in the capital Phnom Penh there is a community of Vietnamese people from Ha Tinh, and many of them have come here to work very successfully...
VMart supermarket and restaurant of Nguyen Anh Sang at 51, 115 street Phnom Penh.
The Ha Tinh people who have been in Phnom Penh the longest that I know are Nguyen Anh Sang and Pham Thi Hai Van. Sang was born in 1983 but has been working in Phnom Penh for 21 years. Both husband and wife are from Phuc Trach commune, Huong Khe.
Sang said that on the first day in Phnom Penh, the couple worked for retail stores. It was not until 2013 that they had saved up enough capital to open their own store. Up to now, Sang and his wife have a supermarket selling Vietnamese goods called VMart with an area of 300 m2 at No. 51, Street 115 Phnom Penh. In addition to the VMart supermarket, Sang and his wife also have a goat specialty restaurant at the same address... There are many overseas Vietnamese in Phnom Penh, so Sang and his wife's business of selling Vietnamese goods is quite favorable.
Tran Duc Chien and Le Tu Tai's restaurant had many Vietnamese customers coming to watch football matches during the 32nd SEA Games.
According to Sang, in the capital of Cambodia, there are about 10 Vietnamese supermarkets, of which Ha Tinh people own 2. Another supermarket belongs to the couple Le Vinh and Doan Thi Thuy. The "Vietnamese supermarket" of Vinh Thuy and her husband is located at 129, Street 199, Phnom Penh Capital. Both are from Lam Hop Commune, Ky Anh District. Having been in Cambodia for 8 years, starting from scratch, Sang and his wife are both very hard-working, typical of Nghe An people.
What is more special about the Ha Tinh bosses is that they create jobs for their hometown's children. Le Vinh's supermarket currently has 6 Ky Anh people working there; Sang - Van's supermarket and restaurant always have more than 30 workers, half of whom are Vietnamese.

It is known that the couples Sang - Van, Vinh - Thuy have been in Cambodia for quite a while, have established their careers there, but their children are still living with their grandparents in their hometown of Ha Tinh, so they often return home. Sang and Van returned home on April 28 to visit their families, they just took the opportunity to come in time to watch the SEA Games and cheer for Vietnamese athletes, especially the children of Ha Tinh.
Ms. Doan Thi Thuy is from Lam Hop commune, Ky Anh district, and has been working in Cambodia for 8 years.
In Phnom Penh, Vietnamese people also often go to Restaurant 68 at 30, Street 390. When we came here to find Vietnamese flavors, we accidentally found out that the restaurant owners are two young people from Ha Tinh. Tran Duc Chien was born in 1991, from Duc Lien commune; Le Tu Tai was born in 1991, from Duc Giang commune, Vu Quang district. Both of them have only been in Cambodia for 5 years, but their success has exceeded their imagination. Mr. Vu Thanh Hung, the restaurant manager, said that the restaurant serves Vietnamese people, many Cambodians, and tourists from their hometown. Mr. Hung is from Nam Huong commune, Thach Ha. Hung said that the restaurant has more than 30 employees, mainly Vietnamese and children of Vietnamese people living in Cambodia.
Seeing the scale of the restaurant and the regular customers, I admire the two young people from Ha Tinh. When I asked Chien and Tai, I learned that the chef and some of the restaurant's staff had to be recruited from their hometown, so they could prepare delicious Vietnamese dishes. Chien also manages an interior design company in Phnom Penh.
Nguyen Trung Cuong and Le Tien Long took a souvenir photo with Ha Tinh coach Dang Van Thanh, currently the national team coach at the Hanoi National Training Center, after winning the gold and silver medals in the 3,000m event at the 32nd SEA Games.
In Cambodia, meeting people from the same Vietnamese hometown, and hearing the Ha Tinh accent, the feeling is hard to describe. On the day the track and field team competed in the 3,000m event, with two Ha Tinh athletes, Nguyen Trung Cuong and Le Tien Long, participating, in the 6th lap, Cuong and Long took the lead, while I was engrossed in taking photos, behind me came a shout: “Ha Tinh, come on! Ha Tinh, come on! Run even faster, my child...!” Everyone in the stadium was watching. In the 8th lap, Cuong and Long raced to the finish line, the Ha Tinh accent in the stands echoed again: “Come on, my child! My hometown is the champion! Come on, my child! My hometown is the champion!” And Nguyen Trung Cuong excellently won the gold medal, while Le Tien Long came in second.
Mr. Le Hong Phong, 72 years old, from Lam Hop commune, Ky Anh district, came to the stadium to cheer for Nguyen Trung Cuong and Le Tien Long.
Going up to the stands to meet his fellow countryman, I learned that his name is Le Hong Phong, 72 years old, from Lam Hop commune, Ky Anh district. What is special is that Mr. Phong is the grandfather of athlete Nguyen Trung Cuong, and the father of Le Vinh - the owner of the Vietnamese supermarket I mentioned above.
The SEA Games are coming to an end and Ha Tinh athletes have won 5 gold medals, with the entire team competing excellently, maintaining the top position on the medal table. We believe that with the enthusiastic support of overseas Vietnamese, especially Ha Tinh people in the host country, the Vietnamese sports team will achieve good results at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games.
