Apple was hit with a class action lawsuit in 2023 that claimed the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were prone to audio problems due to a faulty chip in the devices. The company agreed to pay $35 million to settle the lawsuit, and the plaintiffs will start getting paid this month.
According to 9to5Mac, many claimants received around $200 and some received as much as $349—which is also the maximum compensation for those who paid Apple to fix related issues. However, the deadline for filing claims ended last year.
The class of claims includes any US residents who owned an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus between September 16, 2016 and January 3, 2023, as long as they reported the resolved audio issues to Apple and paid to have their iPhone repaired or replaced due to the resolved audio issues.
Apple was previously sued in 2019 in a US state over the issue, with claims alleging that the company violated consumer protection laws and breached warranties. Although it agreed to settle, Apple denied any wrongdoing.
