At its developer conference on Wednesday (September 27), Meta unveiled an AI assistant that can help users answer questions through links to Microsoft's Bing browser, as well as create AI images.

Users of Meta's platform will also be able to interact with 28 chatbots taking on characters played by celebrities, who have agreed to have their voices and likenesses used for the feature.
Meta said its AI assistant and character chatbots will launch in beta in the US starting Wednesday. “This is about entertainment and doing things to connect with people around you, helping you accomplish the things you want to do,” said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta.
Facebook's parent company also announced that developers will be able to build their own AI for use on its messaging platform Meta. A separate feature coming next year will allow people who can't code to create their own bots.
Meta has cut tens of thousands of employees, scaled back its real estate operations and eliminated low-priority projects. With cost cuts and a focus on AI, Meta's stock price has more than tripled from its November 2022 low.
