Looking at his new house, almost completed and solid on the hillside, Mr. Chang A Thai was moved to tears: "So I have a new house, my wife and children will live in peace, no longer in fear... I don't know what else to say other than thank the Party, the State and the Oil and Gas Group for creating conditions for my family and many families to have a new place to settle down."
Mr. Do Chi Thanh, Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam and Mr. Nguyen Manh Kha, Permanent Vice President of Vietnam Oil and Gas Trade Union, on behalf of the Group's leaders and Oil and Gas workers, expressed their gratitude to the local authorities, the Management Board, and contractors for their efforts to ensure the project could be completed on schedule.
1. The third time returning to Kho Vang village (Coc Lau commune, Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province), we could feel the obvious changes in the new resettlement area, as well as in the awareness, thoughts, feelings... of the people here.
If more than two months ago (September 21), the place where we stood was just a hill that was quickly leveled to serve the groundbreaking ceremony - today, a whole gentle hillside with 35 spacious, sturdy houses has sprung up.
Standing from above looking down, the house is quite beautiful and poetic - perhaps it can become a future tourist destination of Bac Ha district.
Overview of the resettlement area.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Nghi, Secretary of the Party Committee of Coc Lau Commune, said that the selection of a location to build a new resettlement area for 35 households in Kho Vang village had been carefully studied by the functional agencies and departments of the province, district and commune. Initially, there were 3-4 options proposed, but only one option was to build houses in a "stepped" style on the hillsides. This is a fairly stable location, with no "bare hills" around that are at risk of cracking or collapsing. Besides, according to the customs of the Mong and Dao ethnic groups, they want to live high up, not low down.
“For thousands of years, the Mong people have chosen precarious places near the top of mountains to settle, so the selection of a new resettlement area for them must also ensure this factor. In addition, the provincial authorities have also consulted many scientists, geologists... about the above choice. All of them agree that it is only necessary to have a solution such as making stone walls to "cover" the hillside, the foot of each house also needs to be poured with concrete or reinforced with stone cages. The drainage ditches are also treated so that water can drain quickly... With such an approach, people can feel secure in settling down" - Mr. Nghi said.
Reinforce the foot of the hill with gabions.
Because the construction was on a fairly high area, the staff and workers of the Management Board and the Contractor had to make great efforts and determination to "overcome the sun and rain" to reach the finish line on schedule.
At the construction site today, contractors have mobilized hundreds of workers and many machines and equipment divided into many teams to simultaneously construct many items.
The workers rushed to complete the house.
All 35 houses have been roofed and paved, and construction units are continuing to paint walls and complete auxiliary items.
Regarding infrastructure, the two roads leading to the reconstruction area have completed the roadbed and are constructing drainage culverts and embankments, and pouring concrete on the road leading from the school; contractors have gathered materials ready to construct internal roads; the electricity and water systems to each house are also being urgently constructed.
2. Before going to the construction site, we took the time to visit the households currently staying in temporary camps next to the Commune People's Committee. Here, we could feel their joy as they prepared to move to their new homes.
Sung Thi Say and her husband felt very excited as their family prepared to move into their new home.
Coc Lau Commune People's Committee organized a conference to draw lots to choose new houses for 35 households.
Mr. Ma Seo Thai shared that a few days ago he was able to participate in a conference to draw lots to choose an apartment. “Just thinking about moving into a new house soon makes my wife and I very happy, no matter which position we draw,” Mr. Thai expressed.
Mr. Ma Seo Thai is very excited because he is about to move to a new place.
According to Mr. Thai, the couple has planned to buy seedlings and seeds to plant immediately when they move into their new home. “My husband and I never thought that we would have a new house, so we need to grow vegetables to eat, and also grow flowers to make it beautiful,” said Mr. Thai.
Sung Thi Say and her husband also felt very excited when their family was about to move to their new home. “My husband and I have four children, it is a bit hot down here and there are many mosquitoes, the children get sick easily. I am counting down the days to move to a new place. My husband and I really appreciate the help from the authorities and businesses at all levels who have given us a more stable new home.”

Present in the delegation inspecting the progress of the reconstruction area, Mr. Nguyen Trong Hai, Vice Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, acknowledged the efforts of the Management Board, contractors and workers. He also requested all parties to be more urgent and determined, "working during the day is not enough, working at night" with the goal of households moving into new homes before December 20, 2024. Mr. Nguyen Trong Hai requested Bac Ha district to direct construction units to closely follow the schedule, speed up the implementation of traffic projects, then urgently clear soil, rocks, and materials to plant trees to create a landscape. Before December 20, bring people to the reconstruction area so that they can arrange their houses, plant flowers, and make vegetable gardens to create an exciting atmosphere before the house handover day; along with ensuring the construction progress, it is necessary to pay attention to the quality and aesthetics of each project. On behalf of Petrovietnam, Mr. Do Chi Thanh, Deputy General Director of the Group, expressed his sincere thanks to the local authorities, the Management Board, and the contractors for their efforts so that the project could be completed on schedule, before December 31, 2024. "The sooner people can return to their new homes, the better" - Deputy General Director of Petrovietnam emphasized. |
