
Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden was built in 1864, considered one of the historical witnesses of the City, preserving the memories of many generations of people living here. For a long time, Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden has become a highly educational entertainment area about nature conservation that both adults and children love. Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden is not only the "green lung of the city", but is also recognized as one of the 10 oldest zoos in the world, attracting many domestic and foreign tourists to explore.
Currently, Saigon Zoo has a diverse flora and fauna with more than 2,000 animals of 135 species and more than 2,500 trees with more than 900 species preserved. In particular, the Zoo is nurturing many rare animals such as crested pheasants, douc langurs, yellow-cheeked gibbons, golden deer... Here, there is also a collection of rare birds such as hornbills, Indian peacocks and many unique water birds. In addition, by the end of 2024, the Zoo will have 8 ancient trees recognized as heritage trees. Every weekend or holiday, this place attracts a large number of people in Ho Chi Minh City to visit and picnic.
Previously, on the occasion of the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month), Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden also offered free entrance tickets to visitors wearing traditional costumes of Vietnamese ethnic groups such as: ao dai, ao ba ba, and costumes of ethnic minorities on April 2 and 3. The program aims to encourage the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of the nation.
