Phong Lai Commune, Thuan Chau District, has long been known as a land with favorable natural conditions for the development of tea plants. In particular, in Phong Lai, one of the district's major tea growing areas, these days the working atmosphere is becoming more bustling than ever. Favorable weather, lush green tea fields stretching out promise a bountiful harvest. Tea cooperatives and local people are actively caring for and harvesting to increase the value of tea products here.

In late spring and early summer, the weather in Phong Lai is cool, with high humidity and just enough rain to help the tea plants grow strongly. Compared to previous years, this year, spring tea has sprouted green buds, large tea buds, and even young leaves, signaling a high-yield harvest season. Thuan Chau district has a tea area of nearly 2,000 hectares, of which Phong Lai contributes a significant part.

Ms. Pham Thi Thia, Phong Lai Commune, Thuan Chau District, Son La: "In general, the weather this year has been very favorable for tea growers. We are very excited. People are harvesting tea right away. The productivity and working days are guaranteed. On average, there are days when the standard is 1 bud and 2 leaves, which yields 40 kg, and the income is considerable."

Thanks to the climate conditions and careful care from the people, spring tea in Phong Lai is entering the harvest stage with positive signs. Not only has the productivity increased, the quality of tea is also appreciated more thanks to the scientific cultivation process, applying safe tea growing techniques. Not only the people but also the cooperatives and tea production enterprises in the area highly appreciate the quality of tea this year.

Ms. Hoang Kim Ngan, Binh Thuan General Production, Business and Service Cooperative: “Compared to last year, this year’s weather is very favorable. Since the beginning of the year, there have been many rains, and the tea plants have grown very well. When there is rain like this, the tea plants will yield high yields, which brings stable income to the people and creates a good input for the cooperative.”

Tea trees have long been not only a crop, but also an important source of livelihood for thousands of households in Phong Lai, with the connection and attachment between growers and cooperatives and local businesses in production and processing. Thanks to its high economic value, the tea growing area in Phong Lai is increasingly expanding, at the same time many clean tea and organic tea production models are also being replicated to increase product value.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, Deputy Director, Binh Thuan Production, Business and General Services Cooperative: “The weather signals this year are very good, hopefully there will be a bumper tea season, our cooperative has a plan to upgrade the production system to ensure stable consumption for the people. Secondly, we will expand the domestic consumption market and move towards export so that tea trees can bring higher income to the people.”

This year’s spring tea season in Phong Lai is bringing much joy and great expectations to the people. With favorable weather conditions, the attention of local authorities and the role of cooperatives, tea trees here not only help improve the economy but also affirm the Son La tea brand in the domestic and international markets. Hopefully, with these positive signals, Phong Lai tea will develop more and more sustainably, bringing a prosperous life to the people here./.
