People report that cashew nut processing facility in Xuan Loc causes environmental pollution

According to local residents, for many years now, the area near the cashew processing facility of LVC Export Trading Joint Stock Company has often had a strong odor, and this situation is more serious during holidays when the facility increases production.

People have to close their doors to prevent black smoke from entering their homes. They have repeatedly petitioned the District and Commune People's Committees but have not received a final resolution.

Through discussions with the leaders of Suoi Cat Commune People's Committee, the locality said that it had received feedback from people since 2024, the commune had reported to the District People's Committee and relevant agencies to conduct an inspection.

Also according to information provided by the commune, on August 14, 2024, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (now the Department of Agriculture and Environment) issued Document No. 533/BC-TNMT reporting on the inspection of compliance with environmental protection laws of LVC Export Trading Joint Stock Company.

The document shows that at the time of inspection, the company was temporarily suspending operations due to the power grid system temporarily suspending power supply. After that, the company hired a consulting unit to take samples of exhaust gas (at the boiler chimney), noise (at the security gate area), ambient air quality (at the security gate area) and surface water at the section receiving wastewater from the project to assess environmental quality. The company's sample analysis results showed that the environmental measurement indexes at the basic locations were within the allowable limits.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment requested the company to regularly and continuously implement environmental protection measures; carry out environmental licensing procedures according to legal regulations. The People's Committee of Suoi Cat commune regularly monitors the implementation of environmental protection work for the company, at the same time organizes the review of land use, construction works on the company's land and reports to the District People's Committee, if violations are detected, they must be promptly handled.

Based on the report of the Department of Agriculture and Environment mentioned above, on August 23, 2024, the District People's Committee issued Document No. 7016/UBND-NL on environmental protection at LVC Export Trading Joint Stock Company.

In this document, the district assigned the People's Committee of Suoi Cat commune to review and request the company to carry out environmental licensing procedures according to regulations and comply with environmental protection regulations. Organize the review and inspection of land use and construction works on the company's land, promptly detect and strictly handle violations according to regulations (if any).

The district assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment to monitor and urge the commune to implement the instructions.
