Medical staff had to perform CPR on the spot for about 15-20 minutes to restore the patient's pulse before transferring him to E Hospital.
When admitted to the emergency room, the victim had re-established natural circulation and is currently receiving intensive treatment from doctors.
It is known that the victim had only been playing pickleball for 15-20 minutes when the unfortunate incident suddenly occurred.
In recent times, it has not been uncommon for people to be hospitalized while playing sports.
Dr. Doan Du Manh, member of the Vietnam Vascular Disease Association, shared: Strokes while playing sports are mainly in patients with blood pressure problems, cardiovascular diseases, and overexertion causing the disease to recur and lead to stroke.
About 80% of stroke cases while playing sports are people with pre-existing cardiovascular disease. Many people know about the disease but subjectively think it is mild, but some people have the disease but have not discovered it because they do not go to the doctor, or the doctor is not the right specialist so it is not discovered.
Dr. Manh said, for example, when playing soccer, the heart rate changes, beats faster, if not well controlled, it will cause blood pressure to increase rapidly, causing cerebral ischemia. After a few minutes, the patient may return to normal, but this is a warning sign of an impending dangerous stroke.
Previously, strokes often occurred in the elderly and middle-aged people, people aged 50 and over, but recently the rate of stroke has increased in young people. Many causes such as cerebral vascular malformations, chronic non-communicable diseases (hypertension, diabetes), living habits, eating, and exercise can increase the risk of stroke such as smoking, unhealthy eating; sedentary habits, lack of movement.
To prevent stroke, patients should control underlying diseases, especially high blood pressure. Dietary changes are needed to control blood pressure, such as limiting salt or sodium, alcohol, tobacco, coffee, tea, soft drinks, and saturated fat. Increase vegetables and fruits, and exercise regularly.
With risk factors that cannot be self-recognized such as cerebral vascular malformations, cerebral aneurysms, and brain tumors, everyone should have regular health check-ups and proactively screen for stroke. Indications such as CT scan, brain MRI, and DSA angiography can detect early abnormalities in the brain, thereby providing timely intervention.
Before practicing any sport, people need to proactively meet with a sports doctor or physical trainer for advice and screening to see if there are any underlying diseases such as heart disease, lung disease or family history of heart, lung, blood pressure, musculoskeletal problems. If there are any abnormalities, they will be advised to choose the appropriate exercise and exercise amount to avoid unfortunate consequences.
