Selling fish to "run" the storm
Receiving warning information about the complicated path of storm No. 6 (Tra Mi), many ship owners and captains in Quang Ngai province urgently brought their vehicles ashore to anchor and take shelter.
On the morning of October 25, according to the reporter's records at Tinh Ky fishing port (Tinh Ky commune), Tinh Hoa (Tinh Hoa commune, Quang Ngai city) and Sa Ky (Binh Chau commune, Binh Son district), hundreds of fishing boats of fishermen returned to shore.
These fishing boats mostly operate in the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa waters. Although they have not finished their fishing trip and have not yet achieved their catch, when they heard that storm No. 6 had entered the East Sea, the fishermen had to abandon their fishing trip and quickly bring their boats back to shore to sell seafood and take shelter from the storm.
Mr. Nguyen Van Leo (residing in Dinh Tan village, Binh Chau commune, captain of fishing boat QNg 90055 TS) brought the boat back to Sa port (Binh Chau commune), ending the trip half the time earlier than expected.
“The trawler, operating in the Truong Sa fishing grounds, usually returns after about 30 days of fishing, but after only 15 days, we heard about the storm so we turned back. Because it has only been a few days, the output is quite low, only about 3 tons, and at a price of 35,000 VND/kg, it is still not enough to cover the costs. After selling the fish, I will anchor the boat in a safe place and wait until the storm passes before going out to sea again,” said Mr. Leo.

Also at Sa Ky port, the QNg 91374 ship of fisherman Pham Van Ninh (residing in Dinh Tan village, Binh Chau commune) has just returned from the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos. The ship docked, the fishermen hurriedly scooped fish from the hold to transport them ashore to sell to traders. "The ship has only been at sea for 10 days. But seeing this kind of storm, I brought the ship back to shore to ensure safety," said Mr. Ninh.
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Quang Ngai province is forecast to be in the direct impact area of storm No. 6.
Officials are only allowed to go on business trips outside the province when necessary.
