Fisherman rakes in billions after accidentally picking up ambergris

Ambergris is a gemstone created in the digestive system of sperm whales and is used in the perfume and pharmaceutical industries.

Ambergris, also known as dragon saliva or " floating gold ," is one of the most valuable rare natural substances in the world.

In another case in July 2020, a diver in Quang Ngai also discovered a red ambergris block under the sea and later sold it for 1.2 billion VND.

In 2022, fisherman Tran Quan in Hue also discovered a strange object believed to be rare ambergris, weighing nearly 3kg. This object is grayish-white on the outside and light pink on the inside, and also gives off a strange fragrance.

These cases all show the rarity and great value of ambergris, and fishermen often discover them while fishing at sea.

The rarity of ambergris is due to the fact that it can only be found in sperm whales, and only about 1 in 100 sperm whales can produce ambergris.
