My Hoa honey products (My Hoa commune, Tan Lac district) are recognized as 3-star OCOP at the provincial level.
We visited the honey beekeeping model of Mr. Bui Van Tuong in Ngay hamlet. Mr. Tuong is known by many people as a typical farmer who is good at production and business, both hard-working and good at business. Previously, his family mainly raised bees to serve the needs of the family and to give to relatives. In November 2017, grasping the market demand, he and 12 households in the commune established the My Hoa Honey Beekeeping Cooperative. He is currently the head of the Ngay hamlet honey beekeeping cooperative and one of the long-time beekeepers in the hamlet.
Mr. Tuong shared: In the early days of beekeeping, I maintained over 5 hives. Currently, my family has over 80 hives, each year harvesting 500 - 550 liters of honey. The cooperative always reminds members to ensure technical care, colony separation, honey extraction and breeding. Especially in disease prevention and treatment, people use biological measures, not antibiotics which affect the quality of honey.
In addition to raising bees for honey, members of the My Hoa Honey Beekeeping Cooperative also sell pollen, beeswax and bee breeds to the market, contributing to increasing income and improving life. With honey selling for 200 - 250 thousand VND/liter, the cooperative earns more than 1 billion VND each year. Recognized as meeting 3-star OCOP standards, My Hoa honey products are available at many safe food stores in and outside the district.
In addition to creating a livelihood for people, beekeeping also brings double value, stimulating pollination on fruit trees and contributing to the destruction of insects and pests on crops. The quality of My Hoa honey is evaluated as golden, sweet, has a characteristic aroma, contains many minerals, and is a rich source of vitamins to help improve health. Honey products have barcodes and clear traceability stamps, and are well-reviewed by consumers. In addition, beekeeping for honey is a form of sustainable exploitation of natural resources, contributing to environmental protection and increasing income for people.
Comrade Pham Thi Minh Chuc, Secretary of the Party Committee of My Hoa commune, said: Realizing that beekeeping is suitable for the natural conditions and climate of the locality, the people in the commune have developed and expanded the honey beekeeping model, contributing to the development of the local economy. In addition, the fact that My Hoa honey products meet the 3-star OCOP standard has contributed to changing the production methods for the people in the commune, aiming to restructure the agricultural sector associated with building new rural areas and gradually bringing My Hoa honey products to stand firm and reach far in the market.
