Vietnam's oldest high school turns 150 years old

(Dan Tri) - After 150 years of formation and development, Le Quy Don High School (HCMC) is one of the most prestigious and oldest schools in Vietnam, bearing many historical marks.


On January 18, Le Quy Don High School (HCMC) held a ceremony to celebrate its 150th anniversary (1875-2025). Ms. Bui Minh Tam - Principal of the school - was moved to share the school's proud journey of 150 years of growth.

In 1874, the school was founded under the name Chasseloup Laubat. From 1954 to 1967, the school was named after Jean-Jacques Rousseau, becoming a symbol of liberaleducation .

From 1967 to 1975, the school was named Le Quy Don Education Center. From 1975 to present, the school changed its name to Le Quy Don, a pioneer in modern education and international integration.

According to Ms. Minh Tam, behind those 150 generations of students are the silent efforts and warm enthusiasm of many generations of teachers. The unity and cooperation of all teachers and students of the school is the solid foundation to believe in the future development of the school.

At the ceremony, Le Quy Don High School honored a family with 4 generations studying at this school. That is the family of Mr. Ho Thieu Hung - former Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.

Teacher Ho Thieu Hung shared: "I feel honored to study at a 150-year-old school. Therefore, I always have the awareness and responsibility to do something to contribute to Le Quy Don School, so that the tradition of Le Quy Don can last forever."

As the fourth generation in her family to attend the school, Ho Thien Thao expressed her pride in studying at this prestigious school.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy - Vice Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - said that Le Quy Don High School's 150th anniversary marks the 150-year historical journey of the city's architectural and artistic relic, encouraging the journey of innovation that the school has pioneered and persistently carried out over the past decades.

From this school, many generations of students have made their names in history with their patriotism, studiousness, daring to take risks, creativity and burning passion.

At the same time, the Vice President advised current students to try to create their own challenges, find their own self-study methods and persevere with their own discipline. They are the generation that continues the school's glorious traditions and is also a high-quality source of human resources for the city.

On this occasion, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee decided to award the Traditional Flag of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to Le Quy Don High School for its outstanding achievements in the process of construction and development.
