Connecting members to take care of production

To improve production activities, Hoa Thanh General Agricultural Service Cooperative (Hoa Thanh Cooperative) organizes monthly agricultural extension club activities, monitors rice sowing and harvesting every crop, and annually summarizes irrigation activities and production efficiency. Not only members and cooperative staff, but also village and commune authorities participate in these activities. This helps to exchange production experiences, learn from limitations, and create connections between members and members, members and cooperatives, and people and local authorities.

According to Mr. Dinh Van Chin, Team Leader of the Cooperative Irrigation Team, the team has 36 workers in charge of regulating irrigation water and repairing intra-field canals. In the past year, implementing the cooperative's plan, the team has contributed to repairing the roadside from Ma On hill to the drainage ditch, and concreted the starting and ending points of the 220m long bank of Lot 15. Currently, the team is focusing on draining water to ensure the dry fields are ready for harvesters. After the harvest, the team continues to clean up mud and soil scattered on intra-field traffic routes...

Hoa Thanh General Agricultural Service Cooperative is one of the typical advanced cooperatives in the province. The cooperative has been operating effectively and stably for many years. Not only completing the assigned tasks well, the cooperative also actively deploys new services, exploits advantages to promote business, thereby increasing the cooperative's revenue, bringing economic efficiency to capital contributing members. Hoa Thanh Cooperative is a new cooperative model that needs to be replicated.

Mr. Pham Duc Hau, Director of this Cooperative, said: The unit organizes 5 production services including irrigation and intra-field canals, intra-field traffic, agricultural extension and plant protection, land preparation and harvesting services. In particular, every year the Cooperative mechanically dredges earthen canals, regularly repairs and reinforces concrete canals; at the same time, reinforces the banks of plots and intra-field areas to serve the movement and transportation of agricultural products for the people. The Cooperative guides members to apply scientific and technical advances in production such as row sowing, sowing with seed drills, integrated pest management IPM, applying "1 must, 5 reductions", "3 reductions, 3 increases" ... In addition, the Cooperative promotes the search and expansion of new rice varieties to replace low-quality rice varieties in the locality. At the beginning of the season, the Cooperative contracts with plow owners, bringing 140 machines into the fields to ensure that 100% of the area is plowed by mechanization. During harvest, the cooperative regulates 80 harvesters to work simultaneously, helping the entire production area managed by the cooperative to be harvested quickly and effectively.

Profit from service business

All year round, business services bring good revenue to the cooperative, including agricultural supplies, member loans, insurance agents, high-quality rice trading and joint ventures. These services attract over 85% of cooperative members. According to Hoa Thanh Cooperative, the unit acts as an agent to supply fertilizers with a variety of types and flexibly supplies them to people in cash on the spot or sell on credit at the end of the season. Each year, the cooperative sells 70-80 tons of fertilizers of all kinds. The cooperative signs a contract with Dong Hoa Town Social Insurance to act as an agent to collect voluntary social insurance and family health insurance. The cooperative develops a network of collaborators to 5 people, implementing to each member household to mobilize participation. To promote the consumption of Hoa Thanh quality rice products, the cooperative opens a retail store at the headquarters, links with grocery stores to distribute products to develop a consumption and sales network through the cooperative's website system and many e-commerce sites of departments and branches. The cooperative has entered into joint ventures with businesses and individuals to open 2 rice milling factories, 1 rice husk charcoal production facility, 2 retail stores and many other small service stores, thereby creating more jobs for rural workers and increasing the cooperative's income. Through member lending services, many households have capital to invest in livestock farming, production and expanding family businesses.

“The cooperative has more than 3,200 member households contributing 1.4 billion VND. In 2024, the cooperative achieved a revenue of more than 3.9 billion VND, with a profit after tax of 974 million VND. Workers at the cooperative have an income of over 6 million VND/person/month. Members receive capital contributions and service profits of 172 million VND. Cooperative members take agricultural production as their main source of income. Therefore, the cooperative considers organizing good production services as an effective way to connect and care for the economic lives of members' households,” Mr. Hau added.
