Mrs. Tran Thi Ngo - the homeowner said that the ancient house was built by her grandfather, with elaborate and meticulous carvings. According to some information, Mr. Tran Van Hoa was a famous rich man in Long An. He owned almost all the land in Long Huu to grow rice and rent it out. When the South was still poor, people mainly traveled by boat or horse-drawn carriage, Mr. Tran Van Hoa wore suits, ties, Western shoes, and drove a luxury French car.
Around 1890, he went to Hue himself, hired a team of about 15 skilled workers to go to Long An to build a house. He also went everywhere to buy precious woods such as rosewood, red oak, honey oak, and rosewood to build a house.

After 2 years of construction and 3 years of carving, the house was officially completed. It is called the house of a hundred pillars but officially there are 120 pillars, including 68 main pillars (round) and 52 secondary pillars (square) which are extremely sturdy.
Special architecture of the ancient house
Not only attracting with the name of the Hundred Pillar House, the ancient house is also attractive because of its special architecture, following the style of Hue's traditional houses. Looking at the plan, the house has the shape of the letter Cong, the structure of the traditional house (xuyen trinh) has 3 rooms, 2 wings. The house has a total area of up to 900m2, including the main house with 3 rooms, 2 wings (upper and lower), roofed with yin-yang tiles in the traditional style.

The carvings of the house are extremely delicate, meticulous, creative and combine Hue, Southern style and Western art. Besides the famous fruit images, typical of the West such as custard apple, mangosteen... are carvings with Western culture. To create the above patterns, the group of workers had to build a ladder to carve directly on the wood. At the same time, there are also "four sacred animals" (dragon, unicorn, turtle, phoenix) and "four noble flowers" (apricot, orchid, chrysanthemum, bamboo); there are lotus flowers, lotus leaves, lotus buds...
After hundreds of years of destruction by time and war, the ancient house still stands strong over the years. The house is silent, overcoming natural disasters, bombs and bullets to protect its owner. In particular, the wooden pillars after many years have become "watery" and smooth as a way to show the ups and downs it has overcome.
The hexagonal tiled floor remains intact. In 1997, the Hundred Pillar House was ranked as a Historical Relic by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. - National culture.
The old house has been restored once with the State budget. Currently, the family is preventing termites to preserve the house in the best way.
Currently, the Hundred Pillar House of Long Huu Islet is a relic with an important position in the tourism development planning map of Long An province. Not only is it an impressive work in terms of both materials and detailed lines, this place also has a space filled with green trees, cool, bringing visitors peace.
According to the homeowner, the ancient house with a hundred pillars has also been chosen as a setting for many film crews such as "Doan Truong Nam Ai", "Tieng tho trong mua"...
