Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on November 14 hoped that Marco Rubio, the candidate for US Secretary of State, would pursue a policy of " peace through strength" amid many questions about how the new administration would resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

In a post on social network X , Mr. Sybiha congratulated Mr. Marco Rubio on being nominated as the 72nd US Secretary of State.

“I look forward to working together to deepen the mutually beneficial Ukraine-US Strategic Partnership and promote peace through strength in Ukraine and around the world ,” Sybiha said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned the phrase "peace through strength" when congratulating President-elect Donald Trump and when addressing European leaders.

In addition, Mr. Zelensky presented to the allies a “victory plan”, which focused on providing Kiev with means of self-defense and inviting Ukraine to join NATO, something that Russia has long refused to accept.

On November 13, Mr. Donald Trump announced the nomination of Mr. Rubio to take up the position of head of US diplomacy .

Rubio has previously advocated a more assertive US foreign policy toward geopolitical rivals, but has recently adjusted his stance to align more closely with Trump's "America First" policy.

In April 2024, Mr. Rubio was one of 15 Republican senators to vote against a large military aid package to support Ukraine and other US partners.

In recent interviews, Mr. Rubio has asserted that Ukraine should seek a negotiated solution rather than focus on reclaiming territories.
