(CLO) Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto informed his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had rejected Budapest's proposal for a temporary ceasefire and a prisoner exchange.
"Following a previous phone call between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban after the Hungarian leader's discussions with US President-elect Donald Trump on the situation in Ukraine, Peter Szijjarto said Zelenkyy rejected Hungary's proposal for a temporary ceasefire on the 'Ukrainian front' and a large-scale prisoner exchange," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Sergey Lavrov pointed out that this is not the first time that initiatives from genuinely peace-oriented countries, such as Hungary and Türkiye, have been rejected by the Kiev authorities, despite previous signals of support.
These initiatives include humanitarian efforts to ensure food supplies across the Black Sea and protect the security of nuclear power plants.
The Russian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed the Russian side's commitment to a realistic solution to the conflict, as stated by President Vladimir Putin on June 14.
"The ministers agreed to continue to maintain a close and reliable dialogue on various aspects of the Ukrainian crisis, taking into account assessments and ideas from other countries," Russia's foreign policy agency noted.
