In an interview on the sidelines of the Reconstruction of Ukraine Conference in London (UK), Ms. Baerbock said that Kiev needs to quickly eliminate corruption, as well as "end 30 years of family rule".
While acknowledging that Ukraine has made progress in its reform efforts, especially in the areas of media freedom and the rule of law, the German foreign minister said Kiev still needs to make further strides.
Foreign Minister Baerbock also commented that Ukraine is implementing reforms at an “astonishing speed” and Germany strongly supports this.
According to the head of German diplomacy, Ukraine's accession to the EU is certain.
Therefore, private company investments in the reconstruction of Kiev are necessary, as this will help strengthen the European internal market.
She also predicted that Ukraine could be a decisive factor in strengthening the European market, especially the clean energy market.
Previously, at the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference on June 21, the German Foreign Minister emphasized the need to link Kiev's post-conflict reconstruction process with the Eastern European country's EU accession process.
“I believe that we need to further link Ukraine’s reconstruction process and Kiev’s EU accession process. Our goal is to help rebuild a Ukraine that is eligible for EU membership,” the German diplomat asserted.
