Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tran Nguyen Minh Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City - said that the department has sent a dispatch to solicit opinions on the draft plan for 10th grade enrollment in the 2025-2026 school year to education departments, principals of high schools, affiliated schools and directors of continuing education centers.
Accordingly, the Department of Education and Training of Da Nang City has drafted a proposal to submit to the City People's Committee for consideration and promulgation. The Department's leaders requested units and schools to conduct research, contribute ideas and send feedback before February 5, 2025.
According to Mr. Thanh, in addition to the two compulsory subjects of math and literature, Da Nang plans to choose foreign language as the third subject for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year.
After completing the steps in order, the department will soon officially announce it to help schools and students have effective teaching, learning and review plans.
Although there has been no final decision, as of February 5, this information received the agreement of the majority of students and parents.
A ninth grader in Hai Chau district said: "I really hope and believe that 99% of the third exam subject will be a foreign language, because our country is moving towards making English a second language. We have also prepared ourselves mentally and reviewed early."
Mr. Nguyen Tan Toi (a parent of a child in grade 9) shared: "Although it has not been officially announced, if the third subject is English, all parents will breathe a sigh of relief. This exam is not only the first exam under the new program, but there are also changes in the exam plan that make us quite worried."
However, on Da Nang student and parent forums, many opinions expressed disagreement with the "third exam subject changing over the years". In addition, the announcement time as proposed by the ministry (before March 31 every year) is also considered too late, causing difficulties for review.

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training issued a circular regulating junior high school and high school admissions, assigning the right to decide on the third exam subject to the departments of education and training from the 2024-2025 school year.
Up to now, 18 provinces and cities have announced the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Most localities have chosen a foreign language, mainly English.
