Nghiem Van Y fights Brazilian jiu-jitsu master to reclaim Vietnam MMA throne

LION Championship 20 is the final event, closing the 2024 season of the Vietnamese professional MMA arena. Martial arts fans are looking forward to the championship matches, in which the competition between Nghiem Van Y and Felipe Negochadle is the center of attention.

Last year, Nghiem Van Y lost the championship belt to his Brazilian opponent. In this rematch, the former Vietnamese wushu player participated as the challenger to reclaim the title in the 65 kg weight class.

Negochadle - a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) specialist - has only fought twice in 2024. He lost to Isfak Seyid in ONE Championship via points. Previously, in February, the Brazilian defeated Anacleto Lauron by first-round knockout.

The 65 kg title match between Nghiem Van Y and Felipe Negochadle is the highlight of the LION Championship taking place on December 14 in Hanoi .

Meanwhile, Nghiem Van Y just returned to LION Championship on the 18th day of competition. He knocked out Quang Van Minh with a kick to the opponent's ribs and a series of consecutive punches.

In the 70kg category, champion Nguyen Van Kamil defended his title against Jovidon Khojaev. The Tajik challenger, 14 years younger than Kamil, was competing in Vietnam for the first time.

In the remaining match in the women's 60kg category, Chelsey Cashwell will defend her title against Lo Thi Tam - an international wushu Sanshou master. Currently, Lo Thi Tam has only one victory at this year's LION Championship.

In addition to the 3 title matches, LION Championship 20 continues to witness friendly matches between Vietnamese representatives and foreign opponents. Top 1 in the 60kg category, Tran Ngoc Luong, will welcome the representative from Cambodia - Rin Saroth. After the joy of victory in China a few days ago, Ngoc Luong will face a fighter who has fought 6 times in the ONE Championship tournament, with veteran experience in the harsh Kun Khmer arena.

LION Championship 20 also gives young talents who have already made their mark. In the women's 52kg category, "teacher" Lo Thi Phung will face female martial artist Tran Tra My. Both, with their recent winning streaks, are aiming for a championship title after this event. Meanwhile, in the 56kg category, wushu martial artist Tan Thu - Dinh Van Khuyen will welcome the very potential name Nguyen Phu Thinh.
