Born into a farming family in Thanh Hung hamlet, Thanh Dien commune, Chau Thanh district, Lan Anh is the second oldest of two siblings. Her younger brother was born in 2007 and is studying in grade 11 at the Tay Ninh City Vocational Education and Continuing Education Center (campus 2). When Lan Anh was 5 years old, her mother unfortunately suffered a stroke and passed away. Her father had to work hard alone, "a single father raising his children", trying to do farm work to take care of the family's life and raise the two sisters to study.
One day, Lan Anh's father discovered that he had a serious illness. As the main breadwinner in the family and worried about his children, he hid his illness and continued to work to earn money to take care of his two children. At the end of 2024, when Lan Anh was focusing on studying for her exams, her father became seriously ill and passed away. The two sisters could only rely on the care and protection of their aunts, uncles, and neighbors.
Lan Anh confided: “When my mother passed away, I was still young so I didn’t understand the pain. Later, although life was difficult, my father always loved and encouraged my sister and I to study hard. Now that both my father and mother are gone, I often feel lonely. There are rainy nights when I lie down to sleep alone, missing my parents comes flooding back, and I can only cry. Sometimes I feel depressed and want to quit school to find a job, but thinking about what my father told me before, I try to overcome the pain, determined to go to school to have a stable career, from there I will have the conditions to take care of my younger brother.”
According to Ms. Pham Ngoc Giau - the homeroom teacher, despite her difficult family circumstances, Lan Anh is always a good student, knows how to overcome her circumstances, is cheerful and sociable, and actively participates in social security activities such as: summer volunteer campaigns, green Sundays... She is loved by teachers and friends.
A neighbor near Lan Anh's house shared that thanks to the school, the neighbors and charitable social organizations always wholeheartedly supporting both materially and spiritually, Lan Anh and her sister's studies were stable. The two sisters were always polite, reminded each other to study, and everyone loved them.
Mr. Nguyen Thai Ha - Head of Student Affairs Department, Tay Ninh Vocational College shared that Lan Anh is a student with excellent academic results, but due to not having enough money to pay tuition, she submitted a request to leave school for the 2024-2025 school year. Considering her situation, the Student Affairs Department mobilized teachers, the school's Red Cross Society and the Board of Directors to support Lan Anh's tuition so that she could continue her studies.
Lan Anh hopes that after graduating from school, she will find a stable job to be able to take care of herself and her younger brother. With determination, courage and aspiration, Lan Anh and her sister hope that they will guide each other through the difficult years to achieve their dreams in the near future.
