The open letter was signed by Principal Dinh Phu Cuong on behalf of the school's teachers and sent to agencies, businesses, parents and philanthropists.
“Every year, on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20, the school receives many flower baskets and congratulatory cakes. However, these flowers and cakes are only used for one day and then thrown away, which is a waste,” the first part of the letter reads.
Therefore, the collective teachers of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School propose: "This year, due to the difficult economic situation after the pandemic, through this open letter, the school respectfully requests that instead of giving flowers and cakes, businesses and parents of students, please change the form by giving health insurance cards to students so that the school can give them to students in difficult circumstances...".
To give readers more information to sympathize and share with the school, the letter added the following paragraph: "Currently, the school has 89 disadvantaged students who cannot buy student health insurance cards. The value of each student health insurance card is 680,400 VND for 12 months of 2024."
At the end of the letter, the representative of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School expressed: "The school really hopes to receive support and sharing from individuals, charitable organizations, and parents to help the school's students, which is also a good social security policy."
As soon as it spread on social networks and newspapers today, November 17 (the letter was signed on November 13), many opinions expressed support, even praise for the teachers, as well as the Principal of Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School. In Ho Chi Minh City, District 6 has long been a low-lying area in some aspects of the socio-economic field. Therefore, teachers thinking for students in difficulty, for social security is truly precious on this occasion of November 20.
Ho Chi Minh City is famous for refusing to accept flowers and gifts in writing on industry anniversaries. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has often issued documents refusing to accept flowers and gifts on November 20 for many years. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health and many medical facilities also issued documents refusing to accept flowers and gifts on the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day (February 27). However, turning flowers and gifts into health insurance cards for students has only been seen at Nguyen Van Luong Secondary School.
I hope that units, not only in the Education sector, but also in other sectors, always think about social security issues, a meaningful aspect while transforming to become more civilized and modern.
