Many risks due to insects entering the ear
According to Dr. Nguyen Phuong Dung, an ENT specialist at Medlatec General Hospital, ground cockroaches are dark brown or black-brown, wingless insects that move quickly by crawling. They are omnivorous and can destroy the natural environment by eating plant sprouts, rice bran, decomposing animal carcasses, and even the feces of other animals. In urban environments, ground cockroaches often hide in dark, hidden places in the house.
When cockroaches enter the ear, they can cause many risks such as irritation and damage to the ear canal due to the small spines on their legs. In case they try to find their way out, or if the patient does not remove them properly, it can lead to damage to the eardrum.
Cockroaches carry many bacteria and pathogens that pose a risk of infection. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cockroaches can carry up to 32 types of bacteria that cause diseases such as diarrhea, gastroenteritis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections and a number of other dangerous diseases.
Doctor Dung warns that cockroaches or other insects crawling into the ear can cause unwanted harm, so people should absolutely not take this problem lightly.
When experiencing ear pain, hearing strange noises in the ear, or suspecting that an insect has entered the ear, the patient should go to a medical facility with an ENT specialist as soon as possible. The doctor will remove the insect and treat any damage caused by the insect.
After removing the insect, pay attention to cleaning the ear and using ear drops as directed by your doctor to prevent infection.
When an insect enters your ear, do not use tools to pick it out, or put medicine or hydrogen peroxide in your ear. Otherwise, you will accidentally push the insect deeper or the insect will struggle and damage the lining of the ear canal, making it more difficult to remove.
Do not use folk remedies when insects get into your ear such as heating leaves, steaming... not only will it be ineffective but it will also cause the insect to get deeper.
Remember to keep your living space clean, arrange furniture neatly and tidily to avoid hiding insects. Do not sleep on the ground, wash blankets and pillows regularly to avoid attracting insects.
For young children, it is necessary to pay attention to personal hygiene, change into clean clothes, especially after feeding to limit attracting insects. In addition, instruct children to play in clean, airy places.
