On the evening of December 8, at Ho Guom Theater, two pianists Nguyen Viet Trung (Vietnam) and Eric Lu (USA) reunited and had outstanding performances in the symphony concert with the theme "Chopin: Magical piano".

In this concert, for the first time, 2 soloists Nguyen Viet Trung and Eric Lu played 2 concertos by composer Frédéric Chopin, with the Sun Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of conductor Olivier Ochanine. Among them, pianist Nguyen Viet Trung played Concerto No. 1 - one of the only two works written for piano and Symphony Orchestra composed by Frédéric Chopin when he was only 20 years old. Eric Lu played Concerto No. 2 in F minor op. 21. by composer Frederic Chopin.

Artist Nguyen Viet Trung shared that he felt great to be able to return to perform in his homeland. Growing up in Poland - the homeland of the great musician Chopin, Nguyen Viet Trung was exposed to and loved Chopin's music from a young age, perhaps that has become his strength when playing the lyrical, poetic but also improvisational pieces in Chopin's music.

With his expressive style full of soul and creativity, Nguyen Viet Trung has conquered the audience with his ability to convey subtle, deep and intense emotions through each piano key as well as facial expressions. His flexibility and technical mastery take the audience soaring with the emotional flow of music, bringing Chopin's music closer to the public.

Artist Eric Lu expressed his joy at coming to Hanoi to perform the musical works of classical composers with his close friend, artist Nguyen Viet Trung. Despite differences in nationality and expressive style, the artists all share the same passion and desire to “devote themselves to music.” The sublimation of the artists on stage brought the audience unforgettable experiences.

The organizers said that the two artists will also perform together in the concert on the evening of December 9 with the theme “Echoes of Genius: An Evening with Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms”. The program will open with Beethoven’s Overture to Fidelio, Op. 72.

The highlight of the program is the simultaneous appearance of two artists Eric Lu and Nguyen Viet Trung in the special work Concerto No. 10, K365 written for two pianos by Mozart. The program will be concluded with Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73 by composer Brahms.

The two shows are different works with different expressive styles of the artists on stage, giving the audience different experiences.

Artist Eric Lu was born in 1997 in Massachusetts and is a classical pianist. Eric Lu was once a student of People's Artist Dang Thai Son. Eric first gained international attention at the age of 17 when he won the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw.

He has been invited to perform with many major orchestras around the world: Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Boston Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, etc.

Artist Nguyen Viet Trung was born in 1996 in Hanoi. He moved to Poland with his family when he was less than 1 year old and studied piano professionally since he was 7 years old. Nguyen Viet Trung has been successful with a series of prestigious national awards in Poland.

According to the Organizing Committee, the two special classical music nights were organized by the Vietnam Classical Music Association's Organizing Committee, with the desire to honor the eternal value of classical music; honor Vietnamese and international artists, to connect and promote cultural exchange, and realize the foreign policy of the Party and State in the field of cultural diplomacy.

Previously, on June 26, 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the Steering Committee for the establishment of the Vietnam Classical Music Association in Decision No. 1645/QD-BVHTTD, with 10 founding members.

In 2023, the Steering Committee organized the Concert “Eternal Sound” with pianist Nguyen Viet Trung and the Vietnam Symphony Orchestra at the Hanoi Opera House. The two symphony concerts on the nights of December 8 and 9, 2024 are the continuation activities of the Steering Committee, aiming to launch the Association as well as organize the First National Congress of Delegates, immediately after the approval decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs./.
