Artist Tiến Dũng has passed away at the age of 65.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, Chairman of the Trade Union of Tran Huu Trang Theater, after being taken to the emergency room at Nam Saigon International Hospital (Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) by his family, artist Tien Dung passed away at 9:30 AM on March 16th, at the age of 65.

Mr. Thu stated that previously, artist Tien Dung's health had become increasingly critical, and he suffered cardiac arrest on the evening of March 15th, but his family still hoped to prolong his life. However, due to complications from diabetes, one foot had to be amputated due to necrosis, and despite treatment by a team of skilled specialists, artist Tien Dung could not be saved.

The funeral of artist Tiến Dũng is planned by his family to be held in Bến Tre province, his hometown.

The passing of artist Tiến Dũng has left many colleagues, especially those working at the Trần Hữu Trang Theatre, deeply saddened.

The most recent role of artist Tiến Dũng in the cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera) play "City at Dawn" was warmly received by the audience. This cải lương play tells the story of the life, career, and great contributions of the late Prime Minister Võ Văn Kiệt.

Artist Tiến Dũng began his singing career at the age of 16, starting with backstage work for the Saigon 2 Cai Luong Troupe. At 18, he officially took to the stage when he joined the Truc Giang Troupe of playwright Nam Sơn. Nam Sơn was also his first teacher, imparting experience that enabled him to perform a wide range of roles.

The first character artist Tiến Dũng played was "The Hero of the Green Forest" in the play "Thoại Khanh - Châu Tuấn". After gaining audience attention, he joined the Trùng Dương Troupe in Vũng Tàu, becoming famous for plays such as "Deep Hatred in the Royal Palace", "Dusty Wind on the Horse", and "Sorrow at the Border Pass"... Later, he collaborated with the An Giang - Khánh Hồng Cai Luong Troupe and the Hồng Nhung Troupe.

Artist Tiến Dũng was guided by director Nguyễn Mỹ – the younger brother of the late comedian Quốc Hòa – to portray various types of villainous roles, supporting roles, and sentimental roles… and was loved by the audience.

In 1990, artist Tiến Dũng joined the City Performing Arts Troupe - the predecessor of the current Trần Hữu Trang Theater. On this stage, he performed in plays such as "Not Dust" and "The Durian Tree in Bloom," which received praise.

Artist Tiến Dũng also imparts his experience to many young actors, is dedicated to his profession, and wholeheartedly commits to every role he is given.

In 2019, artist Tien Dung retired due to complications from diabetes, which damaged internal organs, leading to polyarthritis, peripheral neuropathy, and difficulty moving.
