Artist Luu Hong Quang is studying for his PhD in New Zealand; he has just returned home to perform the concert Journey of Resurrection: With Liszt, Schumann & Brahms.

"Want to share my emotions with the audience"

Luu Hong Quang shared with Tuoi Tre Online that Vietnam has just experienced natural disasters and losses. Many events moved him. He wanted to share his feelings with the capital's audience.

Taking the audience back to the classical music of the romantic period, the concert opened with the dramatic, tragic atmosphere of Funérailles (Funeral March) by Franz Liszt.

"I chose this piece because it is a melody that commemorates the sacrifices of heroes.

It is not only sad, nostalgic, weak but also very heroic and brave," the artist confided.

After Funérailles came Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood), which depicts a peaceful and poetic world of the land of children.

Luu Hong Quang said the reason for choosing this work is because it has a connection between loss and revival. "After difficulties, we remember the past but also have to look to the future, hoping for beautiful things ahead. The innocence and natural purity of children is the hope for the future," he said.

Johannes Brahms's piano masterpiece Sonata in F minor, Op. 5 not only revives every lively movement of Romantic music, but also conveys in it images and stories, aiming at a noble ideal.

According to Luu Hong Quang, the concert moves from evening to morning. That is the emotional flow throughout all the works that he wants to dedicate to Hanoi audiences at this time.

Music is a refuge in the trying times of fate.

Talking about the reason for choosing romantic classical music to perform in this return, the artist said that the music of this period is close to human breath.

"It expresses human emotions in many different shades and each person feels it in their own way.

It is not bound by strict structures but has flexibility and freedom for perception," Luu Hong Quang expressed.

The artist chose two German romantic musical works to perform, because German authors always have big questions about life.

He cited Brahms, who said that music is the companionship of triumphant songs and dark songs, between light and darkness.

It is a struggle and not always smooth and easy. There are times when music is like a treasure that protects your soul in the challenging moments of fate.
