Donald Trump said that "the stars are so focused on politics that they can't do their job at the last minute. It's sad. It takes away from the charm of the Oscars."
Artist mobilization against Mr. Trump seemed to be prevalent during Hollywood’s awards season after the 2016 election, when many artists spoke out against White House policies at the time.

Meryl Streep's speech at the 2017 Golden Globe Awards prompted Mr Trump to call her "one of the most overrated actresses" in Hollywood.
The 97th Academy Awards ceremony, which took place on the evening of March 2 (US time), five weeks after Donald Trump began his second term, was considered less political. The chatter about President Donald Trump has gradually decreased at recent entertainment events.
With the devastating fires ravaging Los Angeles as a backdrop, this year's Oscars season is all about coming together. The Grammys were the first show to air after the wildfires. The SAG Awards are next focusing on first responders, and the Oscars will also raise money for fire relief efforts.
This year’s Oscars host, Conan O’Brien, is perhaps the most obvious departure from previous Oscar ceremonies. Jimmy Kimmel, who has hosted previous Oscars, is one of Mr Trump’s biggest rivals in Hollywood, regularly denouncing the president on his late-night show and mocking his legal troubles and social media posts at the most recent Oscars. Mr Trump has taken notice.
"Has there ever been a worse host than Jimmy Kimmel at the Oscars?" Trump wondered, prompting the comedian to read his post on stage during the live Oscars telecast and ask, "Haven't you served your time in prison?"
Comedian Conan O'Brien on the Oscar red carpet
Comedian O'Brien, meanwhile, doesn't typically delve into politics, which is part of the reason he was chosen to host this year, according to the leadership of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (which organizes the Oscars).
"O'Brien is a lovely person. He's a humanist, he's not interested in politics," Bill Kramer, CEO of the Academy, told CNN when asked what makes O'Brien the perfect host.
Kramer also made it clear to CNN that he was aiming for a non-political telecast. “Absolutely,” the CEO said when asked if he wanted the Oscars to stay away from politics on the night of March 2.
"We talked to the artists about focusing on the work, and this is really their moment," Kramer said. But some of this year's nominees do touch on political themes: The Brutalist is a story about immigration; A Real Pain revisits the horrors of the Holocaust; Emilia Pérez 's protagonist undergoes gender affirmation procedures; Wicked explores themes of resistance to authoritarian leaders, and The Apprentice is really about Trump's background.
Audience members attend a pre-Oscar masquerade in Los Angeles
Among the frontrunners for acting awards—Zoe Saldaña, Kieran Culkin, Demi Moore, Timothée Chalamet and Adrien Brody—none of their acceptance speeches at recent Oscars have been overtly political. While there are outspoken Hollywood stars scheduled to present awards on March 2, including Rachel Zegler, Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Stiller and Oprah Winfrey, time constraints often prevent presenters from straying from script.
In fact, sometimes the most emotional speeches come from lesser-known winners at the Oscars, like last year's acceptance speech from Zone of Interest director Jonathan Glazer, who condemned Israel's war in Gaza, sparking a flurry of controversy.
Predictions are that this year's Oscars will be "peaceful," but anything can happen.
