Durian is a fruit that brings high economic value in Long Khanh City (Dong Nai Province). On average, a durian tying worker can earn about 20 million VND/month.
During the rainy season of 2024, Mr. Pham Tan Nhat, Suoi Tre quarter, Suoi Tre ward, Long Khanh city (Dong Nai province) is busy tying durian.
Mr. Nhat said that for a 1-acre durian garden, he ties it for more than a week, depending on the number of trees, big or small. He is paid 600,000-650,000 VND/day. The work time is 7 hours.
He has been tying durian for over 30 years, this job provides him with a stable income. To do this job, one must be small, agile and have good health.
This job is not difficult but requires experience, if you do not tie the durian tree in the direction of the tree, the branches will break and the fruit will fall. On sunny days, it is less slippery and dangerous, but it will still be very tiring. On rainy days, the branches are very slippery, so you have to climb slowly and carefully.

Mr. Pham Tan Nhat, Suoi Tre quarter, Suoi Tre ward, Long Khanh city (Dong Nai province) shared his feelings: " In the past, I did not have the experience like now, working in the morning and resting in the afternoon. After working in the profession for many years, learning, researching and gaining experience, my work is more proficient, professional and highly effective."
Mr. Tran Hong Son, owner of a durian garden in Nong Doanh quarter, Xuan Tan ward, Long Khanh city (Dong Nai province) added: "The stormy weather causes broken branches and fruit to fall, causing economic losses. During the process, we must ask experienced farmers to tie durian trees to limit risks.
I can do it but it's slow. For example, if I can make one tree, a professional can make eight trees, so the efficiency is not high. Long Khanh's weather is about to enter the rainy season, forcing me to protect the fruit, so I hired a team to tie the durian trees, that's the most effective."
Mr. Pham Tan Nhat with the job of tying durian
According to Mr. Nhat, this job has a high income but in return, one must have the strength to climb trees. Along with health, to stick with the job, the worker must be really hard-working and observant to be able to master it and stick with it for a long time.
Each durian tree has a different height, but usually each time you tie it, you have to climb the tree.
Durian tying season falls during the rainy season, so the tyer must be very careful when climbing, and must put safety first.
