On April 21, the People's Committee of Nghe An province issued Official Letter No. 3205, requesting the temporary suspension of research on the planning of a crematorium in Dien Loi commune, Dien Chau district. At the same time, the province assigned the district government to notify the people to coordinate implementation, ensure security and order, and continue to implement other contents in the area in accordance with regulations.

The ecological park cemetery in hamlet 6, Dien Loi commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An will temporarily suspend construction planning.

This decision was made in the context of local people having petitions about the inadequacies surrounding the project.

Previously, this project was expected to be implemented in Dien Loi commune, Dien Chau district, Nghe An, with a scale of 60 hectares. The project implementation area is mainly production forest land, on land without public assets...

The project is planned to install a crematorium with technology that meets environmental protection standards of Vietnam and Europe.

The crematorium system uses gas as fuel, operates and processes in a closed system. During the operation of the crematorium, the authorities commit to 5 no's: no smoke, no odor, no wastewater, no dust and no noise.

According to the plan, the distance from the fence of the land planned for the project to the nearest residential area is 600m. When planning in detail, the crematorium will be located at a minimum distance of 750m from the residential area, this distance is 1.5 times higher than the standard.

Preparation work is expected to be completed in January 2025. Construction of the cremation area is expected to be completed in May 2026.

In 2017, Nghe An approved a project of a crematorium and ecological park in Hung Tay commune, Hung Nguyen district with a total area of nearly 80 hectares and an investment of up to 500 billion VND. However, this project encountered fierce opposition from the people, leading to a stagnation, having to organize dialogue and lobbying but without results. In August 2024, the People's Committee of Nghe An province officially canceled the project.
