Preserving the source of national culture
Nghe An is a land with a long history, once a "fence" and "important town" of the country and also a resting place and coexistence of 6 ethnic groups: Kinh, Thai, Tho, Mong, Kho Mu, O Du. The imprint of cultural heritage on Nghe An land is therefore clearly revealed, reflecting the long history of formation and development of the Nghe cultural region, extremely diverse and rich.
Regarding tangible cultural heritage, Nghe An province currently has 2,602 relics and scenic spots, of which 492 have been ranked, including 6 special national relics, 145 national relics and 341 provincial relics.

The relic system in Nghe An includes all types: historical relics, architectural art, archeology and scenic spots; in which, the archaeological sites span continuously from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age (Tham Om, Lang Vac, Dong Truong, Dong Mom relics...).
Besides, there is a treasure trove of historical relics with beliefs and religions (communal houses, temples, pagodas, shrines, tombs, family churches...), with very special values in terms of architectural art such as Hoanh Son communal house, Trung Can communal house (Nam Dan), Sung communal house (Yen Thanh); temple systems such as Con temple (Quynh Luu), Qua Son temple (Do Luong), Bach Ma temple (Thanh Chuong), Vua Mai temple (Nam Dan), Cuong temple (Dien Chau), Duc Hoang temple (Yen Thanh)...
A very typical type of relic, characteristic of the land of talented people rich in cultural and revolutionary traditions is the system of relics commemorating leaders and famous people such as Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site (Nam Dan), Le Hong Phong Memorial Site (Hung Nguyen), Phan Dang Luu Memorial Site (Yen Thanh)...; especially the Relic Site of President Ho Chi Minh in Nam Dan and the system of relics in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement.
Closely connected with tangible cultural heritage is a unique system of intangible cultural heritage. Up to now, the whole province has carried out an inventory of 463 heritages in the forms of festivals, folk performances, customs, folk knowledge, etc.

Of these, 9 heritages have been included in the national intangible cultural heritage list and 1 heritage has been recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity, which is Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs.
Preserve and promote cultural heritage values
In 2023, the Department of Culture and Sports has had many active activities in the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage. For tangible cultural heritage, the work of preparing records for classification, restoration, embellishment, renovation, protection and promotion of the value of cultural heritage relics has been regularly paid attention to and achieved important results. During the year, the procedures for classifying 15 relics were completed, including 1 special national relic (King Mai Temple), 2 national relics (Chin Gian Temple and Hao Kiet Temple) and 12 provincial relics.

In addition, urgent restoration and embellishment of 13 relics from the provincial budget has been organized; restoration and embellishment of 3 relics according to the national target program; restoration and embellishment of 284 relics according to Resolution 284. In addition, it has directed and guided the organization of the ceremony to receive the ranking certificates of 11 relics; completed 100% of the assigned targets for inventorying antiques and relics.
Also in 2023, the Department of Culture and Sports advised on organizing the groundbreaking ceremony for the Cultural Tourism Area Project of the Special National Monument of President Ho Chi Minh Memorial Site and the 9-storey Waterfall Project at the tomb of Mrs. Hoang Thi Loan, Nam Dan District. Implementing the projects: Preserving and restoring the Hoanh Son Communal House, Phan Boi Chau Memorial Site; Upgrading and adjusting the exhibition of the Soviet Nghe Tinh Museum, the Museum of Culture of Western Nghe An Ethnic Groups; Restoring and restoring the house of Mr. Vi Van Khang; Digital transformation at the museum...

Regarding the preservation of intangible cultural heritage, last year, the Department of Culture and Sports presided over and coordinated with localities and units of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to successfully organize the Sen Village Festival to celebrate the 133rd birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2023) and the Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Festival with many rich and unique activities.

In addition, submitted to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism for appraisal and inclusion in the list of national intangible cultural heritage for Yen Luong Temple Festival (Cua Lo town) and Thap Nien Su Le Festival (Do Luong district); supported the activities of 152 Vi and Giam folk song clubs, including 44 newly established Vi and Giam folk song clubs and 108 regularly operating Vi and Giam folk song clubs; directed and guided the rituals for 22 traditional festivals...
Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh - Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, said: "In the coming time, in the work of preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage, the Department will focus on the following key tasks: Continuing to invest in embellishing and promoting the historical value of the Kim Lien National Special Historical Relic Site to become a special address for educating the tradition of patriotism and revolution worthy of the cultural heritage value of President Ho Chi Minh; advising on the development of a Project to preserve and promote the value of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs for the period 2025-2030 to submit to the Government for approval; advising the Provincial People's Committee to promote the implementation of the contents of Resolution 28/2022/NQ-HDND of the Provincial People's Council stipulating a number of policies to support the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage values in the province"...
In 2024, the Department of Culture and Sports will coordinate to organize the following activities: Coordinate with Ha Tinh province to organize a series of activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam folk songs being recognized by UNESCO; coordinate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organize the Exhibition "Vietnam Cultural Heritage Space 2024" in Vinh city...
