Of that, the news industry alone has seen 2,681 job cuts this year, including broadcast, digital and print. According to Challenger, the news industry has lost more jobs through November than it will in all of 2022 or 2021.

Meanwhile, the total number of jobs cut across the US media industry was 20,342, the highest number so far this year since 2020.
Over the past 12 months, dozens of large and small news organizations in the US have laid off employees, including major brands such as The Washington Post, NPR, BuzzFeed News, Vox and The Texas Tribune.
In neighboring Canada, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) said it would cut 600 jobs, or 10% of its workforce, amid financial difficulties caused by falling television advertising revenue.
