The whole industry's export reached 29.2 billion USD, up 19%
On the afternoon of June 28, 2024, sharing with the press, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien emphasized: The total export turnover of agriculture, forestry and fishery products in the first 6 months of the year reached 29.2 billion USD, an increase of 19% over the same period in 2023. Of which, the main agricultural products group reached 15.76 billion USD, an increase of 24.4%; main forestry products 7.95 billion USD, an increase of 21.2%; aquatic products 4.36 billion USD, an increase of 4.9%; livestock products 240 million USD, an increase of 3.8%...
In the first 6 months of the year, there were 7 products and product groups with export value reaching over 1 billion USD, including: Coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wood products.
“Rice and cashew nuts are two products that increased both in volume and export value: Rice: 4.68 million tons, up 10.4%, value reached 2.98 billion USD, up 32%. Cashew nuts: 350 thousand tons, up 24.9%, value 1.92 billion USD, up 17.4%. Coffee exports alone decreased in volume (reaching 902 thousand tons, down 10.5%), but thanks to the average export price increasing by 50.4%, the export value reached 3.22 billion USD (up 34.6%)” - Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said.
Agricultural sector confident with export turnover of 55-56 billion USD
Trade results reached a high level thanks to the efforts of the entire industry. In particular, in the second quarter of 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development focused on implementing projects to promote the export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products to key markets approved since the end of 2023 (China, the US, Japan and the EU), opening new markets with great potential such as: Halal Muslim countries, the Middle East, Africa...
According to Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien, the results of the first 6 months of the year will create the premise for the whole industry to achieve the goals set in the last 6 months of the year.
"Agricultural, forestry and fishery exports could reach 55-56 billion USD this year, in line with the Government's target," Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien affirmed.
According to Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong - Director of the Department of Crop Production, with both rice output and productivity increasing, the agricultural sector can export 7.5-8 million tons of rice, meeting the demand of the world market in the context of India temporarily suspending the export of white rice.
In the first half of 2024, the whole country cultivated 5.03 million hectares, an increase of 0.9% over the same period last year; harvested 3.48 million hectares, an increase of 0.5%; average yield was 67.1 quintals/ha, an increase of 0.7 quintals/ha; output on harvested area was 23.3 million tons, an increase of 1.6%...
“In the second half of 2024, the ministry will focus on directing the production of summer-autumn, autumn-winter and winter-spring rice crops in accordance with weather and market developments, ensuring domestic consumption and export,” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Nhu Cuong.
To achieve the set goals, including export goals, the agricultural sector focuses on strongly developing the market, removing barriers, and facilitating the consumption of agricultural, forestry and fishery products.
In particular, continue to coordinate with embassies, trade counselors, agricultural counselors to collect and provide information, tastes, needs, update policies and regulations for the business community and localities; support and connect businesses to participate in trade promotion, promote opened products, export officially associated with diplomatic activities to major markets and effectively exploit potential markets.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Phung Duc Tien affirmed: “With a total export turnover of 29.2 billion USD, a total import turnover of about 20.92 billion USD, the trade surplus of the whole industry in the first half of the year reached about 8.28 billion USD, an increase of 62.4% over the same period last year. The agricultural sector continues to affirm its role, ensuring domestic food security and contributing to ensuring food security in the world.”
