Attractive income, open jobs
Just entering her first year, Tran Thi Huong Khue - a student majoring in Korean Studies at Van Hien University - had her first chance to "travel" to the miniature land of kimchi at the "Hangeul Festival 2023" hosted by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
Khue said she has been passionate about Korean culture since high school and decided to study this major at university even though she was still quite unfamiliar with a new language.
Knowing the difficulties, therefore, attending the Korean Festival is an opportunity for me to exchange, learn and gain experience with students majoring in Korean studies and Korean language at 18 universities and colleges in the South.
"This is a fairly new industry, I have many opportunities to develop in the future. When I complete the program, I can work at a Korean company in Vietnam or even work directly in Korea," Huong Khue shared.

In her final year, Nguyen Hong Tran - a student majoring in Korean at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - shared that learning Korean requires not only passion but also perseverance and diligence.
Having an older sister studying Korean and earning more than 20 million VND after a short time working gave Tran more motivation to pursue it.
"Learning a foreign language, the most difficult problem for Vietnamese students is communication. Therefore, you need to create all conditions to speak Korean to improve your ability. This field of study has many opportunities but it also depends on each student's ability to have a commensurate income," said Hong Tran.
She shared that there are many people who initially chose this major because they loved it but then gave up because they couldn't keep up.

Mr. Shin Choong Il - Consul General of Korea in Ho Chi Minh City - said that the rate of schools teaching Korean in the Southern region increased by 50% compared to previous years. This shows that Korean is a very popular language in Vietnam.
According to Mr. Shin Choong Il, Vietnam is the most important partner of Korea in many aspects such as politics, economy, culture, education... Therefore, learning Korean is not only about accumulating knowledge but also has an important meaning in strengthening cooperation between the two countries. The Korean Festival will be an opportunity for the relationship between Korea and Vietnam to become closer.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Choi Jae Jin - Chief Representative of the Korea Foundation (KF) - assessed that job opportunities for students studying Korean are very large when there are about 9,500 Korean projects investing in Vietnam.
Most of these businesses have a need to employ workers who know Korean, so learning this language is very meaningful, opening up great opportunities for students after graduation.
"The Korean language ability of Vietnamese students surprised me. They study well and have very good pronunciation. I really appreciate the Korean language ability of Vietnamese students," said Mr. Choi Jae Jin.
Regarding income, the Chief Representative of the Korea Foundation for International Exchange said that he did not know the detailed figures, however, for students majoring in Korean language when working at Korean enterprises, their income will be 2-3 times higher than students who do not study Korean.
Love is not enough
Talking about the Korean language training program, Dr. Huynh Ngoc Anh - Vice Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - shared that many young people are very interested in Korean and are learning it to be able to integrate with Korean culture, learn and exchange between the two countries.

He assessed that the demand for jobs for Korean language students is very high. Every year, units will organize many job fairs for students to interact and get closer to businesses.
Many students who have just graduated have achieved 15-20 million VND/month, depending on their ability and cultural understanding to have a higher salary.
"It is important that students have passion and love for Korean culture and language. In addition, students must be diligent and practice regularly. Students can communicate directly with lecturers, especially Korean lecturers, participate in clubs, festival programs... to improve their abilities," Mr. Ngoc Anh advised.

The Hangeul Festival 2023 will take place with exciting activities such as the Hangeul Festival 2023 uniform design contest, Korean language and culture booth decoration, Kpop Random Dance, tug of war, Korean calligraphy, Korean talent "Hangeul Speech Contest", "Hangeul Festival 2023 Talent Contest".
In addition, students can enjoy cuisine, experience trying on traditional Hanbok costumes and participate in Korean folk games.
