On the afternoon of September 2, for the first time, the Sun Symphony Orchestra had the honor of participating in the national concert program “What remains forever 2024” at the Hanoi Opera House. Under the baton of conductor Olivier Ochanine, the Sun Symphony Orchestra played majestic and profound melodies, contributing to reviving heroic historical memories, arousing patriotism, pride and aspirations of the Vietnamese people.
Over the past 15 years, Dieu Con Mai has become a familiar and meaningful artistic rendezvous for audiences nationwide. The concert is held at the Hanoi Opera House at exactly 2:00 p.m. on September 2 every year, the exact moment President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
This year, the program still marked the continuity and preservation of precious works in the national music treasure. However, the program was raised to a new level with the appearance of an international element: French conductor Olivier Ochanine and the Sun Symphony Orchestra.
In his opening speech, journalist Nguyen Van Ba, Editor-in-Chief of VietNamNet Newspaper, said: “ The stage of What Will Last 2024 will feature for the first time the appearance of French conductor Olivier Ochanine and the Sun Symphony Orchestra.
The immortal pieces of revolutionary music performed by Vietnamese and international artists will be sung in the most creative way together with the most learned musical form - chamber symphony. Music is a language without borders .
Right at the beginning of the program, when conductor Olivier Ochanine led the Sun Symphony Orchestra with the participation of many international artists to play Tien Quan Ca - Vietnam's National Anthem to start the Flag-Salute Ceremony - an indispensable ritual of the National Concert Dieu Con Mai, many audiences could not contain their emotions and pride.
The French conductor made a special impression on the audience when he did not wear a suit like other concerts but chose the traditional ao dai as a way to honor Vietnamese culture and tradition. He said he was very happy with this choice.
Next, through the language of music, the Sun Symphony Orchestra continued to lead the audience through a nostalgic journey, recalling the heroic, sacred, and emotional moments of the nation through melodies imbued with pride: songs celebrating the Dien Bien Phu victory, about the Liberation Day of the Capital.
Conductor Olivier Ochanine - Music Director of the Sun Symphony Orchestra - shared: " We feel very honored to be part of such a special art program - where millions of hearts turn to each other on the great holiday. Today, we wish for nothing more than to contribute to helping the audience join in the flow of emotions with the melodies that have gone through the years ."
When the beautiful melodies filled with love for the homeland of the work "My homeland Vietnam" (Do Nhuan) arranged by musician Tran Manh Hung for the symphony orchestra ended, the whole audience burst into emotion with endless applause.
Going beyond the framework of a concert program, the Sun Symphony Orchestra contributes to making “What Remains Forever” a connecting thread of the previous generation and conveys faith and aspiration in the triumph of the Vietnamese people on the path to the future.
The Sun Symphony Orchestra was established in 2017 with the aspiration to realize the goal of bringing classical music closer to domestic and international audiences. The orchestra currently gathers many outstanding classical music talents from Vietnam and the world with nearly 50 artists from 20 countries.
Under the baton of Music Director/Main Conductor Olivier Ochanine, the Sun Symphony Orchestra regularly performs symphonic and chamber concerts at the Ho Guom Theater every month. In addition, the Orchestra also participates in many other meaningful music projects such as the “National Concert What Remains Forever” organized by Vietnamnet newspaper, and educational concerts at high schools and universities in Hanoi.
