In 2025, Ngan Son district planted over 971.7 hectares of tobacco, achieving 114% of the plan. Currently, some areas are in the leaf and stem development stage, while others have already been harvested. However, the weather since the beginning of the season has been dry with little rain, resulting in prolonged drought, causing slow growth and development in many areas.
In the communes of Hiep Luc and Thuan Mang in Ngan Son district these days, it's easy to see lush green tobacco fields. Some areas have already been harvested, and the farmers are delighted because this year the tobacco quality is good and the yield is high.

Mr. Nguyen Trieu Ta, from Ban Giang village, Thuan Mang commune, said: "For a long time, my family has been growing tobacco on land lacking water, only suitable for one rice crop per year. Initially, due to lack of experience, the tobacco product wasn't very good. After receiving training from the tobacco purchasing company and the commune government on how to grow, care for, and dry tobacco, the product we produce has improved significantly. Since starting to grow tobacco, my family has had a more stable income. Compared to rice, corn, and other crops, tobacco yields much higher profits."
Mr. Trieu Van Cuoi, from Na Chua village, Thuan Mang commune, shared: "Last year, my family planted 5000m² , and this year we've increased it by another 1000m² . Although it requires quite a lot of effort to care for and regularly check for pests and diseases, tobacco cultivation provides a fairly stable income, and after selling the product, we have some money to cover our living expenses. Currently, our tobacco crop has yielded its first harvest."

It is evident that tobacco has become a key crop bringing economic benefits to the people of Ngan Son district, with many households escaping poverty and achieving a decent income. Tobacco is well-suited to the local climate and soil; moreover, the presence of businesses investing in and providing agricultural supplies, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as organizing technical training, has given people peace of mind in their production.

Local authorities are currently stepping up monitoring of tobacco product procurement activities by companies, ensuring prices are in accordance with initial agreements, and protecting the interests of both farmers and businesses. They are also encouraging farmers to cultivate and care for tobacco using biological products as an alternative to pesticides, thereby strengthening soil protection and preventing soil degradation.
