Banks offer low-interest loans for agriculture

On March 14, the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, Cu Chi District People's Committee and Agribank - Southern Representative Office jointly organized a conference to connect banks and businesses, supporting businesses, cooperatives, and agricultural business households in Ho Chi Minh City in 2025.

Accordingly, 1,954 customers were supported with loans by Agribank branches with a total outstanding debt of more than VND 1,826 billion. Of which, 10 Agribank branches signed directly at the conference for 22 customers with an outstanding debt of VND 462.6 billion.

Mr. Tran Phuoc Sang, Deputy Head of Agribank Representative Office in the Southern region, said that participating in organizing the conference to connect and sign credit contracts with customers demonstrates Agribank's proactiveness in implementing solutions to support people and businesses to overcome capital difficulties and restore production and business.

Since the beginning of 2025, Agribank has implemented a series of preferential credit programs to promote growth, contributing to the economy's growth target of 8%.

For example, the program to promote growth with large corporate customers, Agribank has allocated 80,000 billion VND in short-term preferential capital with interest rates 1.5 percentage points lower than normal loan interest rates.

The program "Prosperity with small and medium enterprises" with a scale of 60,000 billion VND has an interest rate 0.8 - 1.2 percentage points lower than the normal loan interest rate...

10 Agribank branches signed directly at the conference on March 14 for 22 customers with outstanding loans of 462.6 billion VND.

Speaking at the conference, some businesses in Cu Chi district said they are borrowing short-term production and business loans from Agribank at an interest rate of 6%/year and medium- and long-term investment loans at an interest rate of about 9%/year.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Bac, Director of Thien Nhien Viet Import-Export Company, specializing in producing vegetable and fruit powder products for sale in the domestic and export markets, said that in the early days of starting his business, he encountered many difficulties in borrowing capital.

"Because the company's mortgaged assets are located in a suspended planning area, it is very difficult to access credit capital. After that, the company received capital from Agribank Cu Chi branch for production and business activities. The interest rate the company is borrowing to invest in long-term machinery and equipment is about 9%/year, which is appropriate," said Mr. Bac.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Lenh, Deputy Director of the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 Branch, up to now, the preferential credit package in the program connecting banks and businesses in 2025 has been registered by 18 banking brands with a total amount of about 517,065 billion VND. After 2 months, the loan disbursement reached 47,482 billion VND, for 25,306 customers.

Enterprises and business households will have their lending interest rates reduced; credit limits increased; new loans with low interest rates of about 9%/year for medium and long-term loans; short-term loans in VND for 5 priority sectors...

"The program has innovated its implementation method, when directing credit institutions in the area to proactively plan to organize conferences connecting by topic, industry groups such as export loans; agriculture and rural areas; small and medium enterprises; forestry and fishery products; housing loans...

This method aims to connect to support capital and interest rates; connect to support banking services; connect to disburse the credit package for forestry and aquatic products; housing credit package; effective consumer credit package" - Mr. Nguyen Duc Lenh said.
