After nearly three years of restoration, Thai Hoa Palace - the most important palace in Hue Imperial Citadel will be inaugurated on the occasion of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day, November 23.

On November 14, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center announced that after the restoration process, Thai Hoa Palace will be inaugurated and welcome visitors again from November 23.

Here, many artisans and skilled workers are working day and night, meticulously carrying out the final restoration stages, painting and gilding the wooden pillars...

Tourists visiting Hue Imperial City these days enjoy admiring the nearly completed restoration of Thai Hoa Palace.

Thai Hoa Palace is considered the symbol of power of the Nguyen Dynasty. This is where the Nguyen Dynasty's throne was placed, and where the Nguyen Dynasty's ceremonial activities took place during its 143 years of existence.

The canopy is a precious decoration on the king's throne, expressing the majesty, solemnity and sacredness of the space where the king resides.

During the reign of King Gia Long, the Bao Tan was made from brocade. In 1923, on the occasion of the “40th Anniversary”, King Khai Dinh had the Bao Tan made from gold-plated wood to show luxury and nobility.

The Bao Tan is exquisitely carved with the image of nine winding dragons, in which the largest dragon in the middle holds the word "Tho" in its mouth.

The sculpture of "nine dragons" symbolizes sacred power, longevity and fortune.

Around the corners are soft, graceful tassels, creating an extremely splendid and majestic overall look.

Thai Hoa Palace is a typical architectural work of the Hue Monuments that has been preserved intact to this day. This palace preserves a system of literature and poetry in the unique decorative form of “one poem, one painting” which has been recognized by UNESCO as a Documentary Heritage under the Memory of the World Program for the Asia-Pacific region.

Thai Hoa Palace and Buu Tan are also unique architectural highlights, which fully preserve the cultural values of the Nguyen Dynasty in the heart of the Hue Monuments Complex.

Thai Hoa Palace was built by King Gia Long in 1805 in the Dai Cung Mon area. In 1833, King Minh Mang rebuilt the building in its current location.

Due to the impact of time and harsh climate, despite many renovations and restorations, the palace has seriously degraded. The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province approved a project to preserve and restore the Thai Hoa Palace relic with a total investment of more than 128 billion VND.

According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, the restoration of Thai Hoa Palace is not simply a reconstruction of an architectural work, but also a journey to preserve and promote heritage values.

The project to preserve and restore the entire Thai Hoa Palace relic was implemented from November 2021 and is expected to be completed in August 2025. However, with the efforts of the project implementing units, after nearly 3 years of restoration, Thai Hoa Palace is now completing the final stages and will be inaugurated on November 23 - also the occasion of the anniversary of Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day.
