BHG - Focusing on leading economic development, Ngam La commune (Yen Minh) has actively implemented new models. Thereby, improving production efficiency, creating jobs, creating a premise to complete the targets of the Resolution of the 18th Party Congress of the commune, term 2020 - 2025.
Although it is a commune in Zone 3 with a steep terrain, with the determination to promote internal resources, in recent years Ngam La commune has exploited its strengths and effectively transformed the structure of crops and livestock. Currently, the commune has exploited its advantages in Shan Tuyet tea, commercial livestock, medicinal plants, rice, etc. In particular, the locality has built OCOP products, formed product consumption links, contributing to improving the efficiency, quality and value of products, and increasing income for people.

Comrade Hung Minh Ha, Vice Chairman of Ngam La Commune People's Committee shared: Since 2024, the commune has researched and applied a number of pilot models of growing giang trees for leaves, high-yield cassava and cinnamon trees. Notably, many implemented areas have been converted from ineffective corn growing land. Despite the steep terrain, after more than 1 year of piloting, it has shown its suitability and economic efficiency. In particular, giang trees are the first model implemented in the district and are highly appreciated. The total implemented area is 6.5 hectares in 3 villages: Nam Cap, Ngam La, Na Ngu. After implementation, people have harvested 2 times/year, the total output of the whole commune reached over 2.4 tons. Currently, households have signed a consumption contract with a cooperative in Bac Quang district to purchase at the garden at a price of 9 - 12 thousand VND/kg.
After the policy of converting local crop varieties, the family of Mr. Ly A Danh, Nam Cap village boldly converted more than 1 hectare of mixed hills with low efficiency to grow giang trees. Mr. Danh said: “The family tested planting 1,000 giang trees. During the implementation process, agricultural extension officers closely guided on how to plant, use manure, NPK fertilizer as basal fertilizer and combine nitrogen when fertilizing. Up to now, the family has harvested 2 crops, with an output of 4 quintals, after deducting the initial costs, the profit was over 25 million VND and will expand the area in the near future.”
High-yield cassava tubers are purchased by traders at a price of 1 - 1.2 thousand VND/kg. |
Cassava is one of the crops in the list of national key agricultural products. Grasping this great potential, Ngam La commune has oriented people to convert ineffective corn growing areas to high-yield cassava growing. With a total area of 11.7 hectares, farmers are very excited to have a good harvest and good price after applying the new model. Local authorities also regularly direct villages to promote propaganda and mobilize people to produce according to the crop calendar, coordinate with purchasing units to limit early harvest, creating long-term stability for raw material areas. Being an easy-to-grow plant, with no seed costs, and being able to be intercropped to loosen the soil, high-yield cassava in the commune grows very well. On average, it yields 3-5 kg of tubers/root, with a yield of 1.2 quintals/ha, and the total output of the whole commune reaches over 14 tons. In the last harvest, people signed a contract to sell to the purchasing unit at a price ranging from 1 - 1.2 thousand VND/kg.
With many strengths in crop development, Ngam La commune is currently maintaining nearly 60 hectares of medicinal plants including: Ginger, turmeric, cardamom, and amomum. In order to create more diversity, the commune has implemented a cinnamon planting model. Currently, 17.2 hectares have been implemented, although not yet harvested, cinnamon trees grow well; contributing to the formation of an abundant medicinal material area, attracting investment in large-scale production in the commune. From the above new economic models, the initial effectiveness has been achieved, the material and spiritual life of the people has been increasingly improved. In 2024, Ngam La commune reduced the number of poor households by 47; the average income per capita reached 20.85 million VND/person/year, exceeding the Resolution by 10.9%.
“Economic models are spreading, people are excited to apply them, and expand their areas. Not only creating changes in material life, people's production thinking has also been significantly improved, production is closely linked to commodity concentration and mechanization. Promoting advantages, in the coming time, the commune will continue to encourage people to expand their scale, build linkages according to the value chain; pay attention to equipping knowledge, transferring science and technology into the cultivation process. At the same time, research and deploy new models and interest groups such as: Raising castrated chickens; raising carp in the fields; processing products from Shan Tuyet tea; planting production forests..." - Vice Chairman of Ngam La commune Hung Minh Ha added.
