This information was provided by Rosoboronexport leader Alexander Mikheev regarding the interest shown by numerous foreign customers in the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile.

Could Russia export the Oreshnik?; experts compare Western and Russian tanks… these are the topics in today's world military news.

Could Russia export Oreshnik?

According to the TASS news agency, many foreign countries are showing interest in Russia's Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile (MRBM). The head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, announced this at the IDEX-2025 international exhibition in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

Everyone asks. Anyone involved in defense activities or the production of any kind of weapons or military equipment is always interested in what happened with Russia’s new weapons? Of course, I’m talking about the Oreshnik ,” Alexander Mikheev said in response to a question about foreign customers’ interest in the Oreshnik missile.

The Oreshnik MRBM was first used in a military operation in Ukraine in November 2024. The missile has a range of 5,500 km and reaches speeds of up to Mach 11. It is equipped with multiple warheads and individual guided missiles.

In early February 2025, military expert Mikhail Khodarenok suggested that missiles like Oreshnik are capable of overcoming the S-500 Triumfator-M air defense system.

What are the differences between Western and Russian tanks?

After studying Leopard-2 tanks captured on the Ukrainian battlefield, experts from Uralvagonzavod assessed that the Russian tank is designed and equipped with better protective armor than Western tanks.

A representative from Uralvagonzavod stated that Russian experts are currently continuing their research on German technology: "Modern Russian tanks have better protection than Western tanks, partly because the vulnerable area is much smaller."

The main advantage of Russian armored vehicles mentioned here is their continuous modernization, which is carried out taking into account practical experience on the battlefield.

In September 2024, the E1 news portal reported that a damaged Leopard-2 tank, seized in Ukraine, had been brought to the Sverdlovsk region, where Uralvagonzavod is located, for research.

Norway develops new anti-submarine warfare system.

Finnish company Patria has announced the completion of the delivery of the new SONAC ACS acoustic mine-scanning system to the Royal Norwegian Navy, which will use the Finnish product from spring 2024.

According to the manufacturer, Patria SONAC ACS is an advanced, compact acoustic mine clearance system. Specifically designed for wide-range mines with improved acoustic activation capabilities, Patria SONAC ACS effectively mimics the acoustics of any ship, thus delivering superior performance in Minesweeper Mode (MSM), Target Simulation Mode (TSM), and Mine Jamming Mode (MJM).

This system allows the transmission of recorded sound waveforms with high sound pressure across a wide frequency range. Both the intensity and spatial diversity of the underwater sound field can be further enhanced by using multiple SONAC ACS units.

Maintenance, application, and refurbishment of the SONAC ACS on board are supported by solutions compatible with closed-loop, straight-tail, and other trawl systems. Thanks to its compact, slender design and light weight, the SONAC ACS can be easily towed by unmanned surface vessels (USVs) or similar small vessels. The desired trawl depth is set using a surface gun or by utilizing a frame containing buoys and a lowering device.

The SONAC ACS's specifications include low-frequency, mid-frequency, and high-frequency transmitters, as well as a dedicated sonar for monitoring acoustic signals. The composite hull is reinforced with a rigid frame, including passive pressure compensators for each low-frequency transmitter, ensuring durability and reliability under pressure. The modular design of the hull allows for the installation of additional components such as depth gauges or supplementary sensors like sonar or optical sensors.

The SONAC ACS is 260cm long, 68cm in diameter, and weighs 400 to 500kg. Its physical characteristics are optimized for maximum efficiency. A wide frequency range from 7 Hz to 70 kHz and a preferred 6 kVA power supply highlight its ability to operate in a variety of conditions.

Patria stated that they developed this system based on their unique expertise in measuring ship signatures, mine countermeasures, and mine clearance.

During mine clearance operations, the operator selects the desired acoustic signal from a library of previously recorded target samples and begins scanning for suspicious objects using acoustic waves. Additionally, custom signals for fishing operations can be developed if needed. Patria notes that smooth trawling is ensured by a user-friendly interface, providing control and settings functions as well as a view to monitor the system's status. The system can also be used to detect and track underwater objects such as torpedoes or submarines.
