Can Russia export Oreshnik?

According to TASS news agency, many foreign countries are showing interest in Russia's Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile (MRBM). The head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, announced this at the IDEX-2025 international exhibition in Abu Dhabi (UAE).

Everyone asks. Anyone who is involved in defense or the production of any kind of weapons or military equipment is always interested in what happened to the new Russian weapons? Of course, I am talking about the Oreshnik ,” Alexander Mikheev said in response to a question about the interest in the Oreshnik missile from foreign customers.

The Oreshnik MRBM was first used in combat operations in Ukraine in November 2024. The missile has a range of 5,500 km and reaches speeds of up to Mach 11. The missile is equipped with multiple warheads with individually guided missiles.

In early February 2025, military expert Mikhail Khodarenok said that missiles like the Oreshnik are capable of overcoming the S-500 Triumfator-M air defense system.

What is the difference between Western tanks and Russian tanks?

After studying the Leopard-2 tank captured on the battlefield in Ukraine, experts from the Uralvagonzavod Company assessed that the Russian tank was designed and equipped with good armor protection, comparable to Western tanks.

A representative of the Uralvagonzavod company said that Russian experts are currently continuing to study German technology: “Modern Russian tanks have better protection than Western tanks, partly due to the much smaller vulnerable area.”

The main advantage of Russian armored vehicles outlined here is constant modernization, carried out taking into account practical experience on the battlefield.

In September 2024, the E1 news portal reported that a damaged and captured Leopard-2 tank in Ukraine was brought to the Sverdlovsk region, where Uralvagonzavod is located, for study.

Norway develops new anti-submarine system

Finnish company Patria has announced the completion of delivery of the new SONAC ACS acoustic minesweeping system to the Royal Norwegian Navy, which will use the Finnish product from spring 2024.

According to the manufacturer, Patria SONAC ACS is an advanced compact acoustic mine clearance system. Specifically designed for wide-range mines with improved acoustic activation capabilities. Patria SONAC ACS effectively simulates the acoustic performance of any ship, thus providing superior performance in mine laying (MSM), target simulation (TSM) and mine jamming (MJM) modes.

The system allows the transmission of recorded acoustic waveforms with high sound pressure over a wide frequency range. Both the intensity and spatial diversity of the underwater sound field can be further enhanced by using multiple SONAC ACS.

The maintenance, application and refurbishment of the SONAC ACS on board is supported by solutions suitable for closed loop, straight-tail and other trawl systems. Thanks to its compact, slim and lightweight design, the SONAC ACS can be easily towed by unmanned surface vessels (USVs) or similar small vessels. The desired trawl depth is set using a surface gun or using a buoy and lowering frame.

The SONAC ACS specifications include low-frequency, medium-frequency and high-frequency transmitters, as well as a dedicated sonar for monitoring acoustic signals. The composite hull is reinforced with a rigid frame, including a passive pressure compensator for each low-frequency transmitter, ensuring durability and reliability under pressure. The modular design of the hull allows for the installation of additional components such as a depth sounder or additional sensors such as sonar or optical sensors.

The SONAC ACS is 260cm long, 68cm in diameter and weighs 400 to 500kg. Its physical characteristics are optimized for maximum efficiency. A wide frequency range of 7 Hz to 70 kHz and a priority 6 kVA power supply highlight its ability to operate in a wide range of conditions.

Patria said it developed the system based on its unique expertise in ship signature measurement, mine countermeasures and mine clearance.

During mine clearance, the operator selects the desired acoustic signal from a library of previously recorded target samples and begins scanning the sonar to detect suspicious objects. Additionally, custom signals can be developed for acoustic fishing operations if required. Patria notes that smooth operation when trawling is ensured by a user-friendly interface that provides controls and settings as well as a view to monitor the status of the system. The system can also be used to detect and track underwater objects such as torpedoes or submarines.
