On December 16, THX reported that Commander of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces (SMF) - Lieutenant General Sergei Karakayev - confirmed that Moscow plans to conduct seven intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) launches in 2024.
In an interview with Russia's Red Star newspaper, General Karakayev said that over the past five years, the SMF has conducted more than 20 ICBM launches as part of flight tests of new missile systems and training exercises for the Russian military.
It is known that the “Avangard” missile complex with a hypersonic warhead was tested in the Yasny formation in the Orenburg region, using some of the existing infrastructure of the region.
“Seven launches are planned for 2024,” Karakayev said.
Revealing that Russia and the US continue to exchange information on plans to launch ICBMs and submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs), General Karakayev said: “Russia informs the US side about all plans to launch ICBMs and SLBMs at least one day in advance. The US also provides similar information.”
