Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially invited Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming BRICS summit and sign a comprehensive Russia-Iran cooperation agreement.
In a recent interview with state news agency IRNA , Mr Jalali said Mr Putin congratulated Mr Pezeshkian on his election victory and then invited him to attend the BRICS summit.
The BRICS summit is scheduled to take place from October 22-24 in Kazan, Russia. This is the first time Russia has hosted the conference since the group expanded its membership.
Regarding the timing of the signing of the Russia-Iran Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement, Mr. Jalali said that the foreign ministries of the two countries have approved the document, but legal procedures still need to be completed before signing. Mr. Jalali also left open the possibility that Iran and Russia could finalize the agreement within the framework of the BRICS summit.
The new comprehensive cooperation agreement between Iran and Russia is intended to replace the previous 20-year agreement signed in 2001. The new agreement will expand the scope and depth of cooperation between the two countries, including political, economic and military fields.
In addition, the Agreement highlights the growing partnership between Tehran and Moscow, especially in response to Western policies and sanctions.
The Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) has recently placed an order with a Russian company to build a 7,000-ton ship. The ship will soon be added to Iran's shipping fleet in the Caspian Sea.
By ordering the construction of this 7,000-ton ship, IRISL is trying to increase the volume of maritime trade between the Caspian coastal states and play a key role in the country's import and export of goods.
