Later, Vladimir Rogov, a senior official in the Russian-appointed government of the Zaporizhzhia region in southern Ukraine, said that Ukrainian forces were attempting a major offensive against Russian troops for the second day in a row, RT reported. Rogov also said that the new offensive began near the village of Vremevka in the Donbass region of Donetsk on the morning of June 5. Rogov assessed that the new offensive was better organized and involved more Ukrainian soldiers than the one on June 4.

Ukraine's strategic communications center yesterday did not directly address Russia's statement but said Moscow would "spread disinformation about the counterattack and losses of the Ukrainian army," according to Reuters.

Meanwhile, Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of Russia's Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, wrote on the Telegram messaging app early on June 5 that a drone attack had caused a fire at an energy infrastructure facility in the region, but there were no casualties, according to RT. Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on June 4 that an agreement on Sweden's accession to NATO could be reached during the alliance's summit in Lithuania next month, according to Reuters.
