On November 27, Chairwoman of the Federation Council (Upper House) of Russia Valentina Matvienko said that the country has "super weapons" to effectively respond to any aggressive actions.

Sputnik news agency quoted Ms. Matvienko speaking at the Federation Council meeting describing the successful demonstration of Russia's latest Oreshnik medium-range missile as an important geopolitical act in the modern era.

“We have the means, including superweapons, to deliver a strong and inevitable response. As President Putin has stressed, there will always be a response,” she said.

According to the Russian senator, the country did not escalate tensions but was forced to respond and must always be ready for this without the right to be negligent.

She also noted: "The anger and frustration of the US administration under President Joe Biden is understandable. They have lost elections and do not have the support of their own people on domestic and foreign policies. We understand that they can take reckless actions."

Earlier, the US confirmed that Ukraine had been allowed to use ATACMS ballistic missiles produced by Washington to attack targets in the Kursk region in western Russia. Kiev launched the first attack with this weapon, prompting Russia to use its new Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile in response.

According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on the same day, the use of new Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missiles against Ukraine is necessary to make Moscow's voice heard.

Meanwhile, Reuters news agency quoted Bruno Kahl, director of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND), speaking at an event of the DGAP research institute in Berlin, saying that Russia's actions against Western targets could cause the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to consider activating Article 5 on the alliance's common defense.

“The strengthening of Russia's military potential means that the Kremlin may choose direct military confrontation with NATO,” he noted.

NATO and Western intelligence agencies have warned that Russia is behind a growing number of hostile activities across the Euro-Atlantic region, from repeated cyber attacks to arson linked to Moscow.

However, Mr. Kahl also made it clear: "We have no indication that Russia intends to go to war, but if such sentiments prevail in the government in Moscow, the risk of military confrontation will increase in the coming years."
