This air defense system was detected by the VS RF drone operator at a combat position near the village of Sennoye, Sumy province.

The attack was carried out by operators of the Iskander-M tactical missile system.

On the same day, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that the Patriot air defense system launcher near Dnieper had been destroyed by an Iskander-M missile. The location of this missile launcher, in the area of the village of Zhelobok, was detected by reconnaissance means.

The ministry also said that the Su-34 crew of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) destroyed the Ukrainian S-125 air defense missile system in Sumy province.

Recently, the Russian Foreign Ministry also claimed that Ukraine used Western missiles, possibly US-made HIMARS, to destroy a bridge over the Seym River in the Kursk region, killing volunteers trying to evacuate civilians.

In a Telegram post on the evening of August 16, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova wrote: “For the first time, the Kursk region was attacked by Western-made missile launchers, possibly American HIMARS… As a result of the attack on the bridge over the Seym River in the Glushkovo district, the bridge was completely destroyed and volunteers who were assisting the evacuation of civilians were killed.”

Ukraine has not yet commented on this information.

* On the evening of August 16, Russian war correspondent Marat Khairullin said that Ukraine was preparing for a nuclear provocation and had transferred a dirty nuclear bomb to Dnepropetrovsk province, emphasizing that the attacks were expected to be carried out at storage sites for spent fuel from nuclear power plants.

Reporter Khairullin stated: “Sources from the other side reported that Ukraine is preparing a nuclear provocation, which is the detonation of a dirty nuclear bomb. They plan to attack the storage areas of spent nuclear fuel from nuclear power plants... Special warheads for this provocation have been delivered to the city of Zhovti Vody, Dnepropetrovsk region, to the enterprise 'Eastern Mining Processing Enterprise'”.

According to the reporter, Ukraine's provocation could happen during the VSU's advance from Glukhov to Rylsk in Kursk province.

However, there is still no official confirmation of this information.

* Regarding Russia, TASS News Agency reported on August 16 that the advisor to former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Mr. Andrei Ilnitsky, is no longer working at the Ministry.

TASS published a commentary by Mr. Ilnitsky, according to which the VSU attack in the Kursk region was commanded and coordinated with Western intelligence agencies. Mr. Ilnitsky is described in the article as a “military expert, former advisor to the Minister of Defense.”

According to the Russian Defense Ministry website, Mr. Ilnitsky has been an adviser to Mr. Shoigu since 2015. Mr. Shoigu headed the Defense Ministry from 2012 to 2024, and the Defense Ministry is currently headed by Mr. Andrei Belousov.
