(Dan Tri) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov affirmed that Russia highly values its relationship with China and ensures the implementation of all signed commitments.

In an interview published on March 12, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was asked to comment on claims that former US President Joe Biden made a strategic mistake by pushing Russia closer to China through Washington's response to the Ukraine conflict.
"The Americans know that we will not turn our back on our commitments, our legal commitments, as well as our political commitments to China. We have never had such good, long-standing relations with China and this is supported by the people of both countries," Lavrov said.
China is Russia's largest trading partner and economic cooperation between the two countries has grown steadily despite unprecedented Western sanctions.
During a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan last October, Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Russia-China relations as having reached the “level of comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.”
While Russia and China have drawn closer together, relations between Moscow and the West have escalated in recent years.
Mr Lavrov criticised the West for failing to keep its commitment that NATO would not expand eastwards. "Now they argue that they have no legal obligation to expand NATO," he stressed.
Moscow sees NATO's growing presence near Russia's borders and its commitment to admit Ukraine as a threat to its national security and the cause of the current conflict in Ukraine.
