During the visit, he held talks with his host counterpart, Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud. The meeting was also attended by Saudi Arabia's Deputy Interior Ministers Dr. Nasser Al-Dawood, Dr. Hisham Al-Faleh, Russian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Sergei Kozlov and other senior officials from both sides.
In Riyadh, the interior ministers of the two countries discussed ways to promote bilateral security cooperation and discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Notably, the Russian Interior Minister's visit to Riyadh took place just days after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a speech at the Arab League (AL) Summit held in the Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah on May 19.
Saudi Arabia has maintained ties with Russia since the conflict broke out in Ukraine, and Riyadh has said it is working to find a solution to the issue.
Last week, Saudi Arabia’s Prime Minister, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, stressed that the Gulf state was ready to mediate between Russia and Ukraine, and “support all international efforts to end the crisis politically and move towards peace.”
