TASS news agency recently quoted several sources saying that two nuclear reactors of the Russian cruiser Admiral Nakhimov are operational.
"Last Sunday, the second nuclear reactor was put into operation on the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser," TASS reported on February 4, citing an unnamed source in Russia's defense industry. The source confirmed that the cruiser's first reactor went into operation at the end of December 2024.
The consecutive physical start-up of two reactors of the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser shows that the ship's nuclear power is ready to operate in all modes, according to TASS.

Also according to TASS, the cruiser Admiral Nakhimov is at the Sevmash shipyard in the Russian port city of Severodvinsk and will likely begin sea trials this summer.
Nearly three months ago, TASS quoted an announcement from Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation saying that the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser was expected to begin trials in 2024.

The Admiral Nakhimov cruiser has been awaiting overhaul since 1999, but work actually began in 2013. According to the original schedule, the warship would begin trials in 2021 and rejoin the Russian Navy in 2022.
The overhaul and upgrade will significantly increase the firepower and equip the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser with Zircon hypersonic missiles and 10 Kalibr-NK or Onyx cruise missile launchers.
Andrei Dyachkov, CEO of the Severnoye Design Bureau (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation), told TASS that after the overhaul, the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser "will be equipped with the most advanced weapons, making it the most powerful surface warship in the world."

Sevmash shipyard CEO Mikhail Budnichenko said in August 2023 that the Admiral Nakhimov cruiser will be able to operate in any part of the world’s oceans and in any weather conditions. It will serve for at least another 30 years after overhaul.
The cruiser Admiral Nakhimov is designed to destroy sea targets, attack coastal objects, and provide air defense for naval formations.
The ship was launched in 1986 and entered service in 1988. It has a displacement of 24,500 tons, a maximum speed of more than 57 km/h, a crew of 728, and can carry a Ka-27 helicopter, according to TASS.
