The above information was posted by the military website Army Recognition , according to which, the Russian Government Committee has passed a corresponding bill on this and is expected to be put to a vote at the Russian State Duma (Lower House).
If the bill passes, it would be a major step for the Russian Navy, giving it access to new ports in the region.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Foreign Affairs Committee Alexey Chepa noted that the agreement will create an opportunity for Russian ships to anchor at a new port in Africa amid the closure of many traditional seaports to the country's fleet.
According to Mr. Chepa, the new port will facilitate Russia's operations in the Atlantic, including refueling and servicing ships.
In addition, the opening of the port will also help improve the logistical capabilities of the Russian fleet in the region, especially in the current geopolitical situation and in the face of increasing restrictions on Russian ships' access to ports in other countries.
In another development on the same day, Russia's Interfax news agency quoted the press service of the Pacific Fleet as saying that a fleet of warships from this force and the Chinese Navy entered the Sea of Okhotsk in the Western Pacific to participate in joint naval exercises.
During the passage at sea, the flotilla performed joint maneuvering tasks, fought against unmanned ships of a hypothetical enemy, conducted reconnaissance and monitored the situation on the water with the participation of the ship's helicopter.
Russia is conducting the Beibu/Interaction-2024 joint naval exercise with China, which will involve the Russian large anti-submarine destroyers Admiral Panteleyev and Admiral Tributs as well as the MPK-82 and MPK-107 corvettes.
