(CLO) Ukrainian officials said on Wednesday that Russia had launched its first missile attack on Kyiv since August, triggering air raid sirens across the Ukrainian capital.

Ukrainian air defenses said they intercepted two cruise missiles, two ballistic missiles, and 37 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across the country. No casualties or major damage were reported in Kyiv.

The head of the Kyiv regional administration said that debris fell in an area outside the Ukrainian capital, injuring a 48-year-old man and causing a fire at a warehouse.

The capital city of Kyiv has faced Russian drone attacks almost nightly for weeks. City mayor Vitali Klitschko said a drone was still flying over central Kyiv in the morning.

"There were explosions in the city. Air defenses are active. Stay in your shelters!" the Kyiv city authorities wrote on Telegram.

Despite frequent drone attacks, Russia has not attacked Kyiv with missiles since August 26th, when it launched a major offensive across Ukraine using more than 200 drones and missiles.

In another development in the conflict between the two countries, Russian troops have taken control of the Rovnopol community in the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, according to the Russian Defense Ministry on Wednesday. This is just one of several recent advances by Russia in the Donbas region.

Fighting is also taking place on several other fronts. In Russia's Kursk region, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported on Wednesday that a Russian Su-34 frontline bomber had bombed Ukrainian troops occupying the border area.

In addition to still controlling the aforementioned Russian territory, Ukraine is also putting pressure on Moscow through shelling and airstrikes in other border regions.

The governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, reported on his Telegram channel that Ukrainian armed forces attacked seven districts of this Russian border region with 69 artillery shells and 33 drones over the past day.

"In the Shebekinsky district, 35 artillery shells in five rounds of shelling and 9 UAVs, of which 6 were intercepted, were launched at the city of Shebekinsky, as well as the settlements of Krasnoye, Belyanka, Ziborovka, Krapivnoye, Nizhneye, Beryozovo-Vtoroye, Rzhevka and Sereda," he wrote.
